sportin some serious wood
hey guys I just got my new so3 tires mounted and my apexi gt spec exhaust. The only down side is that I cant get on it very hard. I tried it once and the boost shot up to 15psi. so I had to back off. the three mod rule doesnt work for me. I have a pettit dp, cold air, and now the cb. maybe I can just get away with changing the pills, but I really need a ecu.
I get so many looks now. Of course I took out the silencer. The weird thing is that when the car warms up it smells funny, kinda like a donut factory. Oh yeah one last thing every time I shut my car off it gives off a little back fire and no, no flames (I still have the stock cat.)Why does it backfire? Is their something wrong?

15psi would just about pop your motor. 14.7 is/should be the max b4 "POP"!! Take it easy and if yoiu do bet a new ecu I think the PFC controls boost so go with that and changing your pills will help keep it down as well.

First off forget that 3 mod rule bullshit you picked up .
Just watch your boost gauge for spiking. You may want to keep that rule in effect for fuel mix but for over boosting just watch the gauge. You dont have to get a ecu for a boost controller. You can do a Profec-b or something similar and dial your boost down to whatever you want. I have a stage3 m2 ecu that i would like to get rid of soon and go programmable. The m2 is just set too rich for me.And I run the profec-b and I get no spiking whatsoever

I was mearly saying that if you do get a new ecu then get one that controls boost and you should be ok. If not then you can use either a boost controller or put in new pills.

The PFC will definitely control boost but if you want just fuel and boost controllers you can get piggyback comp. s such as the AVC-R or Profec B for boost or the Super AFC for fuel. Backfiring results from running lean. I would definitely put a boost controller if you're hitting 15psi. I wouldn't personally go above 12.5-13psi with stock turbos.

To get rid of the spikes, I'd recommend the Profec b as mentioned above. I have one and it did the trick. I love it. Btw, (for the time being at least) make sure you keep that main cat on...

Rich, did you move to GA? I thought you lived in FL.....oh well, yeah the backfiring is from excess fuel that was not used during the combusion cycle. The cat is making the pop sound and if you go midpipe instead of a pop you will get flames

You know what I mean Sorry about that. I was trying to type fast b/c the phone was ringing. Trust me if that meant he was running lean I would have advised for a fuel computer

I'm just here at Fort Gordon temporarily (until april 2nd) for an army school. My R1 is at KD for tuning, which is why I haven't been trying to meet up with any of you GA guys while I've been down here. I had the FD for the first couple of weeks and met up w/trexthe3rd and rx7ofmine, and had the opportunity to do some drag racing w/mike in the middle of the augusta business section
Btw, the HIDs that Mike installed on his FD are unreal....the lighting is 10 times brighter than my 'blue xenon gas ricer' bulbs...

What do you recommend to better control boost? I love my PFC, but the cut does not come in until another 3psi or so (.25 mmhg) over the the preset limit. I want to add a boost control that I can dial in and that will mesh w/ my PFC. On the street, I see spikes to 1.07 mmhg w/ injector duty only at 72%! At the track (drag) however max boost was .99 mmhg w/ 91% max inj. duty. I would like to keep my max boost around 12 psi until I get bigger injectors.
