Not all 2002s are spirit Rs. They have the recaro seats, lightweight hood, red stitching, "spirit R" on the speedometer, BBS spirit R rims, and some other things that distinguish them.

They rule

Only 1500 Spirit R were made! They have the type A with the red cloth Recaro seats and type B with the red leather seats. One more detail is that they have a special plaque next to the vin number with a Spirit R pruduction number ( 146/1500 ) <--like that!

+1 on that special plaque but its actually located in on the engine side of the fire wall. But there might be another plate by the vin not sure thoe. Here is a picture that I have of one.

Not to mention the dash is a silverish color instead of the black plastic. Off the top of my head here is what differentiates a spirit-r:
1. Spirit-r cluster / silver background
2. grey dash
3. Nardi steering wheel with mazda bag and red stitching
4. Red stitch shift **** and shift boot
5. Red stitch e-brake lever and e-brake boot
6. Red Recaro RZ seats
7. Commemorative plate with your number out of 1500, 2 of these in the engine bay
8. bbs wheels
9. spirit-r badges
10. Leather key chain with gold embezzlement that says spirit-r
11. Spirit-r suspension which I believe is made by showa
12. spirit-r brake calipers (painted red) with special rotors (drilled disc style)
13. spirit-r floor mates
14. spirit-r passenger foot-rest
15. carbon fiber key chain
16. spirit-r booklet

FYI, a seller is currently trying to sell just those three items above for 500,000Y(~$5,200). Contrary to popular believe, not EVERYTHING is cheaper in Japan.

Rich, I dont think the spirit R had a PFC hahaha.
Great list Bryan. I didnt know about some of the stuff you mentioned. Now Im kind of upset my console isn't grey. Whenever I saw pics of the interior I assumed the lighting made it look grey. Anything special about the suspension? The spirit R is supposed to be the ultimate rx7 in stock form but I notice its missing alot of improvements from the rx7-SP and even from some of the special edition 94-95 7s (different color engine bay).

Well the interior is not a blunt grey, more of a subtle note. Look in this picture at the top right by the dash panel and the bottom right by the shifter panel. That shade of grey is pretty much what it looks like, the finish is quite amazing in person.

The SP is more of a purpose-track built car, where the spirit-r is more of an all around car. The spirit-r suspension is made by showa and is ride height adjustable. Showa is world renown in OEM suspension, I believe they made the nsx-r suspension! Showa also produced the Rx7 bathrust edition suspension. They are on par with Aragosta, Ohlins and Quantumn, but serve a different purpose and demographic.

Only one shiny special edition plate in the engine bay....shock absorbers are the RZ Bilstein ones (not Showa) and they're rubbish....the calipers are the same as the RZ ones (just painted red)....mats were an extra cost option (same as normal mats but with a red border)....pass footrest was lifted from the RZ parts bin.

There was a Type C too, automatic four seater.

Once again, not Showa, and not ride height adjustable.

Cheers.

If only they were one-off's!! They're like weeds down here, Gordon.

We have so many of the damn things, I'm actually over the "limited" colour, Titanium!!

I agree Gordon. I want one as a 2nd or 3rd FD so bad. If only we could import them.

Gomez I kind of agree about the color. Mine is getting painted TGM right now but as I look at it more, Im kind of wishing I did white instead.

There would be hundreds.

Gotta be forty Snow White Pearl RZ's like mine too, I guess (out of 175 total build).

I know of guy in Sydney who is importing one right now.

Series 8 FD's are very popular here. The Australian dollar has risen quite a bit against the yen (and the USD) recently, they'll be another flood of them coming in soon.

The Titanium cars are Pandas.

Here's why I've given them that name:

This two-tone effect is factory standard on this colour. I've seen pics of two-tone Titanium cars in Japanese showrooms circa 2002.
