Sparks coming from exhaust . Clogged cat or ignition?

my fd was in storage for 2 months. Took it out and she ran great. All of a sudden at a light it bogged down and stalled. I started it back up easily but has loss of power. Pulled in parking lot and I saw I was shooting sparks- embers from exhaust. It stalled. I got out to see the inside of my racing beat muffler glowing. I have a pre cat delete, and new stock cat (air pump removed) and a stock 13b tt engine. Once I let it cool off it started and ran perfectly Normal. Is this a bad cat? Or I’ve read about coil ignition issues causing his.

My bet is bad ignition killed the cat.

So, yes- both.

Man, that's scary.
When you take down the exhaust, get a picture of the cat for us. I wonder if it's nuked.

Check to see if you have a dead coil.

Fixed problem! bad ecu

I figured out the problem today and the FD is running great. I read an archived article online about somebody having similar problems and it was when the ECu heated up there was a bad solder on the circuitboard and you would get a messed up signal to your ignition basically. The sparks coming out my exhaust were fuel that wasn’t going Thru complete combustion. I pulled the ecu apart and there was a black spot on the circuitboard. Replaced it with a stock ecu and it’s perfect

^Wow, very good for you! Congrats on solving the problem.

Btw, for your stock cat to achieve long term reliability, I believe it is necessary to have a working air pump. Maybe someone else will chime in here to clarify or affirm.
