Question Spark Plug Question?

I ordered some spark plugs from Jason at RX7Store and I told him to send me what he recomends. I gave him my mods and all. Well anyways, I recieved them today and I got 2 - BUR9EQ and 2 - BUR7EQP. So can I run two platinums and two non-platinums. Is that good for the car? I was going to install them today but now I want to hear some feedback first. Please let me know if this is OK or if I should swap them for different ones. I contacted Jason a little bit ago so I have not heard back from him yet. Thanks

IMO, you should run all BUR9EQP. Especially with your mods. I'd just order them from a local NGK dealer. I got mine for $8.50 each at Napa.

I just think it's funny that no one has directly answered his question yet.

I don't think it would be a problem, but I would tend to agree with Import Convert- run all 9's

Unless you're running higher boost >12psi I would stay with the 7's and 9's. If you're running higher boost regularly go with all 9's. And no, there shouldn't be a problem with mixing platinum and non plugs.

Cool, someone is finally answering my question. I run 12psi now but I plan on upgrading my secondaries this summer and retuning my PFC to accomadate for more boost. Right now though since I will only run 12 psi then these will be ok? I don't want to install them and have some type of weird problem. any help is great. Thanks

For now as long as your just driving the streets and not on a track, the 7/9 setup will be ok. Just make sure you have plenty of fuel.

It only sucks when you keep fouling them because they are too cold for the set up he runs. I run the stock set up and havnt had any problems at 12 psi. Anything more and I would go all 9's. A colder plug help against pre ignition under higher boost levels /Temps. Anything higher than 14 psi and I would run an even coler plug. Just figure you will be changing them alot due to fouling.

(i admit that i had moidded soprt turbos, downpipe and running 14 psi in early 1997... so, may not have good experience base by this time on his setup.) -gordon
Well the benefit of the colder plug is to avoid Pre ignition. The intake temps do not increase so much with 2 more psi that he needs them. A colder plug will foul faster and most aftermarket fuel pumps run very rich at idle besides the Nippo pump so the chance for fouling a colder plug is increased dramatically. Its a fact the colder plug is safer. But the question is it neccisary. I dont think so for just 12 psi. Alfies car fouled plugs constantly. He ran 10to 12 psi with upgraded twins, pump, intake, M2 intercooler PFS PMS etc. That thing would foul the plugs all the time. I think he could have ran 7's and 9's with more success but Dave at KDR reccommended 9's all around. The reason. The car was set up to run as high as 14 psi. He just never ran 14 psi so he fouled the plugs constantly. I dont know if Alfs car was tuned overly rich but the colder plugs didnt help the problem. Just my opinion. I am not claiming that Gordon is wrong. I just think its not neccisary until you run more boost or if you encounter high knock readings etc. As far as my car is concerned I run 7's and 9's with no problems. I run 12 psi with DP,MP,Catback,M2 intake, M2 med intercooler, Apex PFC. When i add the pump and injectors I plan to go with a coler plug so I can run 14-16 psi. So its really on the border. I dont think its a huge issue either way. I am happy to contribute to the debate though.
