I'm 99% sure, because I remember I asked about that. I'm 99% sure the Lo-Jack unit is hidden, along w/ it's own backup power source.

I'd doubt that. References?

However, the thermal and visual orbital imaging they can do is pretty slick - I've heard of some examples (i.e. read a license plate from geostationary orbit). However, you'd be hard pressed to have that used to find you, unless you're a military target. Keep those nuclear warheads out of your FD.

FDNewbie is correct.

ALL cell phones have a "GPS LOCATOR" in them that you can turn on or off. If you choose to turn it off, you can still be tracked. All the phone companies say "...ONLY 911 will be able to track you... in an emergency"

this does work whether your phone is on or off.

as for the "GOESYNCRONOUS" orbit... BROKEN93 is correct. THEY ARE WATCHING

I've got a lo-jack in my truck, and I plan one putting in my FD. It is hidden in a different spot in each make of vehicle. Newer models may have a backup power source, buy mine (installed in 99) does not. I accidentally left my lights on a few weeks ago and the alarm was kaput. I unlocked the door with my key and opened it and the audible alarm did not sound. Now the sending unit could have a backup power source, but the alarm runs off the battery.

Not just diff make, but diff model, and sometimes by installer. Oh and the Lo-Jack you're talking about is prob the older one w/ an alarm. The newer ones are a flat fee w/ a keychain transponder and a motion sensor unit in the car. No alarm. The motion sensor goes off, the transponder contacts you. No annual fee, etc.

Newer model sounds better for the FD anyway

Thanks for the updated info.
