Ok my brother got an 93 rx7 sweet ride and he got it from auction and there was no damage on it but when we brought it home everything worked fine. one day i took it out and did some body work on it and i tried to back up and i dont know how to drive manuel and i staled i tried starting the car but nothing happend when i tried turning the key it doesnt even try to start. maybee some one knows what the problem pleaseeeeeeeeee helpppppppppppppppp

 

starter gone bad or other related electrical things. check your voltage (12). is your inner lights dimmin' or whatnot when trying to restart car? is it making a "click-click" without car turning over?

 

Check the positive and negative connections on your battery for a loose terminal.

 

it has about 12v on the batery now. and the radio and lights work fine.

yea i staled and when i staled i just put the gear on nutral without pressing the clutch and we tried pushing the car once and the car started

 

push the clutch pedal ( the one on the far left) all the way to the floor, and then try to start it.

 

ok. and it started once when we pushed it, then a few days later we tried to do the same thing and it wouldnt start, the starter doesnt even try to turn over, and the voltage is at 12. there's a little click when u just turn on the ignition but thats it. and i cant think of anything else that can be wrong with it. if anyone has any other idea's pls let me know.

Bad battery terminals?

 

I think it is the solenoid on the starter or even the ignition. I dont have an FD, I have an FC but it had the same symptoms. It wouldnt start, just click when the key was turned. It turned out that the little plastic piece that has all of the wires attached to it, (sorry dont know what its called) that screws into my ignition had come loose and the key was turning but it wasnt making a full connection. Sorry that my description isnt the greatest, but it should give you an idea of where to look.

The fact that its click makes me know that the clutch safety switch is engaging b/c otherwise you wouldnt hear it. Try checking out the starter, the wires connected to the starter, and the ignition lock cylinder.

P.S. --- Check your battery terminals first. lol.

 

mine sometimes dont wanna start, just hold the key to where is should crank and push the clutch in and out a few times.

 

Sound like the infamous 'click-click-no start' phenomena that pops up every now and then. Usually caused by a bad ignition switch. A lot of people have had this and simply put a push button switch in (keeping the original key switch too) to start the engine.

 

I vote for a bad cell on the battery. At least I'd try another battery, or a full charge first.

 

Corrosion on battery terminals can cause this. Try cleaning the insides of the cable ends and the battery posts themselves.

Could be as simple as a dirty battery terminal. Get a battery terminal wirebrush and clean the terminals and the connectors. Even if that doesn't solve the problem it never hurts to keep them clean and if it does solve the problem you just saved yourself a lot of time and frustration.

 

Ok i took a brand new tooth brush cleaned then both the batery and the clamps still same results.

 

I hope you got the clutch pedal pressed ALL THE WAY to the floor. There's a switch on the top of the pedal, and the pedal has to be all the way down, or it won't engage the starter. If you got the clutch in, sounds like it could be ignition switch, bad battery, bad cables, etc.

 

The clicking sound during an attempted start indicate a low battery. Just because you read 12 volts under no load, does not mean that the battery has enough charge to start the car. Try reading the battery while you are actually attempting to turn the key to start and see where the voltage ends up. If it is down to around 7- 9 volts, it is the battery.

A fully charged battery should read 13.2 V. One that sits without a trickle charging should be still at least 12.4 V.

no i dont thinks its the clutch pedal becouse i press it alllllllll the way no diffarance and the voltage right now on the car is 12v and when the car died first time it was about 13v and i cleaned the clamps and everything on it was fine the were clean the car has new once so i dont think thats the problem.


there is one thing when we got the car the car has theft title and when they stole the car they broke the key inside the egnision and when we got the car we took the egnision apart an foud some broken piecs and we put it together and it worked but not perfectly turning so do u guys think it might couse the problems now becouse of its broken pieces in side? thanks yo all God bless

 

That was kind of an important peice of information to leave out, lol. Yes, there is a VERY high chance, that's the problem. I'd take it all back out, and check the wires. When you say broken peices..are you talking about the key itself or the ignition switch? Either way, I'd just throw a push button on, way easier, cheaper...and other people think it's cool because it a push button start vehicle...lol.

 

when we took the egnision where the key goes litle pieces pieces of the egnition itself fell off plus the key was broken inside it and we took like on pieces out becouse for some reason it didnt go back in. where can i get the push botton?

 

Go to the "parts for sale" section of the forum. Post up a "Want to Buy" for an ignition switch with key. Have your money or paypal account ready. Who knows, someone may have one from a parts car for cheap. You may have to carry two keys from now on, one for the door and one for the ignition, but big deal.
For the record though, if it was "clicking" but the starter didn't engage, I still think it's the battery.

Have you already checked all your fuses? There are three fuse/relay boxes on this car: one in the passenger cabin, one in the engine bay, and another that you'll need to remove some of the factory plastic near the airbox cover to get to.



Exactly how much voltage does your battery have? 12.0 is not enough; if you're not reading at least 12.4-12.6V, your battery is probably not delivering enough power to start the car. Have you tried measuring the battery voltage while someone else starts the car?

If the battery is reading at least 12.4V while you're trying to start the car, try measuring the (+) battery terminal and the chassis for ground, instead of just across both the (+) and (-) battery terminals.
