Exactly. That's not the BOV making that sound, it's the compressor. In the video you can hear the "sh" -sound made by the BOV right before the surging. It would suggest a tight spring closing the BOV before boost has been sufficiently vented.

Can anyone explain exactly why drift and rally cars don't run ANY type of bypass/diverter/blowoff valve please? It just doesn't make sense. In the long run, surely a valve is cheaper than a replacement turbo

There has to be a reason

yep, for drift/rally, you want the boost to be there, even though its a little bit, its worth it to them i guess. btw, they are sponsered, they care about winning and not about parts since they get them for free if they to break them. they also have professional mechanics which can fix everything for them.

Right.. thanks

So I guess in an endurance situation... say, LeMans - where turbo longevity is an issue...the turbo cars would use a bypass valve of some sort yes?

It was my understanding a bov helps keep the turbo spooled between shifts. With no valve the boost slams into the close throtel and back into the compressor wheel slowing it down. Between shifts with a bov the boost still has somewhere to go and the compress wheel doesn't slow down. I could be wrong but that's the way it was explained to me.

What are you talking about? In Japan things aren't cheaper they are more expensive. My best friend just got back from japan two days ago and he says things over there were sooo expensive that you have to have exceptionally good income just to live a decent life.
