Sold the Z06 , bought the FD.
I sold my c5 Z06 and bought another fd. My friends are going, you did what? My answer, the fd is just more fun to drive on the twisty roads of Tn. I looked all over the US for a decent not hacked up fd. Wouldn't you know there was one not 3mi. from my house at Addicted Performance Unlimited, a local rotary shop. I promptly purchased it and brought it home. My brand new Apexi power fc and Pinapple racing air pump pulley delete will be here this week. Time to start a new adventure!

your lucky I had to drive 1200 miles round trip to get mine. Looks like a red interior with black seats. I wanted a ssm with red int, like the combo. Welcome aboard.

I don't have much bad to say about the Z06 other than the plasic inside is about like the fd,cheap and breaks easily. It's more of a gt car. Scary fast and great handling, gas mileage is unreal for so much power. It was just a little big for me. I like a sports car that is small and light with plenty of powerand not so many electronics to deal with. I sold my R2 to my daughter and bought the Z06 ,but I was never quite satisfied.

Did the zo6 have mods?
I ask because basically most FDs around are race cars. Of course a highly modded turbo race car that's light and loves to spin it's engine is a blast to drive. But I wonder if u dropped 15k into a z06 if it too would be fun?
My buddy has a c5 z06. when he sprayed a 150 shot it was Brutually fast. However the fun factor just wasn't there for me. It felt big and not as thrilling. It certainly handled amazingly. But I don't know. It's hard to put my finger on it.
I am not knocking your switch. Just wondering if it's apples to apples comparison? I personally think the fd is a top five car ever produced and I view those that disagree as simply not in the know and or dummies. Their loss.
I sold my last fd and picked up a manual 335i. Frankly it was one of the worst mistakes in my life. I put a Cobb computer and a dp in it. Th car actually moves out nice. I'd wager 12.7 or better in the quarter. It's bullet proof too. The mods cost me 800 and I am pretty sure its on par or quicker than a m3. Having said that it's just not a fun car. It's too civilized. It makes my commute to the train station slightly more fun but I am by no means going for a "cruise" in it on any Sunday.
I think a key differentiator for the fd is that it pulls hard right to redline. On most piston engines I notice that you can literally feel the drop off after the peak hp rpm. You can feel when to shift. My 335i is notorious for that. The car makes torque so low in the rpm. It's amazing actually that at 2k it feels like it has more juice than at 6500. The car literally falls on its face after 6k.

I was told by the guys that were into it back then that the FD ruled ASP at autocross...that is until the C5 Z06 came along. I've sat in one...a low mileage Z06, but never driven one. The seats were just OK. Maybe it's what you get used to but remember thinking the FD's were better.

I prefer the fd over a 911 turbo as well. I liked the Porsche over the z06. The Porsche ranked significantly higher in the fun factor over the vette.
