Question So I want to run 13 psi - any suggestions?

So I want to run 13 psi some of the time. I'm going to get Steve Kan to tune the car. My mods are below:

DP, MP, CB, Intakes, Apexi FC, Greddy BOV, PFS SMIC, Profec B, Walbro FP, ported wastegate, air pump removal

Do I need the FPR and new injectors or would I be ok with what I've got. I plan on monitoring my injectors with the commander and upgrading when they get to 80%. Am I pushing my luck?

Thanks,
Jeremy

That depends on who you ask. Some people on the forum will tell you yes, some people on the forum will tell you no. Who should you listen to?

You should listen to whoever is going to tune your car.

I said on another thread on cold nights i get ~75% duty cycle at 10.8psi. i'd plan on upgrading your injectors *before* you tune for 13psi.

Well Steve tuned mine for 13psi which maxes out at around 94% at low 12's afr. So i'd expect it to at least hit 90%. I run some premix to help keep them clean so they won't clog up and stick open which has worked for now. I don't full boost all the time but i'd say i've hit 94-100 at least 15 times now. So you might want to try 11-12 psi first if you don't feel comfortable with maxed out injectors.

I second this. I hit around 94% at 13psi, and I'm running 11:1 afr's. I've been running like this for probably near a year and haven't had any problems. I am about to upgrade my injectors so I can run 1bar though.

I think that I'll get him to tune it for 13 and then roll it back to 11 to be safe. When I get the fuel system straightened out, I'll run 13.

I want to upgrade the injectors but what should I put in there? I want to hopefully be able to turn up the volume in the future when I'm ready for that. I'm sure I need a secondary fuel rail and upgraded secondaries but what about primaries. I'm pretty new to the whole fuel system thing so I'm open to suggestions.

What kind of premix are you running?

Thanks guys,
Jeremy

Marvel Mystery Oil. I'm still running my OMP. I just run about 4oz every gas tank of this just for a little extra security both for my rotor housings and my fuel system.

What are your thoughts on a FPR? Is it necessary, what does it get me?

Also, I haven't heard of anyone upgrading their OMP, is it pretty common to do that?

Thanks for being patient with me,

Pre-mix does nothing to maintain your fuel system. At all.

A search on upgrading the fuel system would give you all the answers you need. If you want simple, just get the secondaries bored out to 1200-1300cc and run the upgraded Denso (Supra, Cosmo) fuel pump. Done. No need whatsoever for an FPR or aftermarket fuel rail.

If you are going to run 13 psi, get the fuel system before you are tuned. It's never a straight change to the maps when changing the fuel system.

Also, I haven't heard of anyone upgrading their OMP, is it pretty common to do that?
Because no one has. The stock OMP rarely fails, usually it's a wiring or injector line issue, in which case general maintenance will take care of that.

What kind of premix are you running?
There is no need to premix. With the Datalogit, the PFC can adjust the oiling parameters of the OMP to inject more oil.

Well said...

Actually it's a part fuel system cleaner. Or at least that's what the back of the bottle says.

Another simple solution it to run 850's in both the primaries and secondaries. Although some have reported having trouble getting the idle just right.

I'm running 850's all around and was tuned by Steve Kan for 15 psi last year. Mine idles perfectly. I chose this route because I couldn't afford 1600's, aftermarket rail and fpr at the time. I also knew that 850's bored out to 1200-1300 would be useless once I went single. And once I went single I would probably be running 850's in the primares anyway.

The downside is that you are taking a risk that your car could be one of the ones that idles like crap with 850 primaries. You also need to mill down your primary rail which means some downtime. I sent mine to garfinkle here in TN and had it back within the week.

BTW.....Can I get in on some of this memphis FD racing action?
