Heck if it were mine, I'd wipe the housing down really well with solvent and cover the hole with duct tape. Then I'd call Ray and have one on my front door in a few days, at which point I remove the duct tape and install the cover.
But the rock isn't as worrisome to me as engine oil leaking and getting blown in, or rainwater getting in. You don't want a wet or oily clutch, really you don't.

If he has another car, the smart thing to do would be to drive it for a very short time, until the hole is covered.

it would be a bitch of a repair if something did happen... drop trans, new clutch disc, a new pressure plate or pull off flywheel and resurface. depends on where the debris was sandwiched between.

I don’t mean to cause a fight, defiantly get a cover plate for it but really? your worried about moister getting to a disk thats probably made out of the same stuff as your brake pads? I might be worried about engine oil leaking from the oil pan and splashing up there.. but lol you guys make it sound like friction surfaces and metal should be kept in a microsoft chip bay.
Please note that im not saying dust particals wont cause damage easer to replace a rotor then an expensive light weight aluminum flywheel!

Some of you guys are going way over board. If you can build a cover it will work fine and take less than 5 minutes to make. If you cant just order one and put it on when it get there. There is no reasnon to not drive your car. There is another hole in your bell housing right on top to let in anything it wants. In fact most bell housings have holes in them without covers. Nothing will be able to get in there.

Honestly, this thread is freaking retarded. The thread starter had his question answered. It's not worth debating about, that's for sure .

no, i'm right. in addition to an OEM cover you should install a bellhousing air filter and super-computer contolled laser canons that incinerate any potentially hazardous particles within a 10 foot radius. this includes children and small animals... they both have pesky tendencies.
