Unhappy So I let my friend use my FD....

Hi all, my FD had sat for a couple of weeks without being started.
The alarm had gone off and the battery ran itself flat, it was really due for a start.
I had to go away for the weekend, and left my keys to the FD with my friend and said.

"its got no gas, the batteries flat, but it needs to be started/driven - if you can do it for me you will be doing me a favor"
yea yea very bad idea i know.

So i go away for the weekend, and come back to a friend who feels very bad indeed.
He tells me he was driving in 3rd at about 5-6k rpm when it just lost power and went rough. He said he had managed to drive it home, and it would still start but run like crap..
I get there and try to start it, but the car just turns over.

So i think to myself "i bet hes blown the line to the boost sensor off" Check the tube and sure enough its disconnected. Connect that back up and crank it over again.
No start - flooded and in limp mode i think to myself.
So i go to remove the Leading plugs, and low and behold when i pull the lead off one of the plugs the whole back/inners of the spark plug pull out with it!

So i remove the bottom plugs. remove the EGI fuse and crank the engine a little, can hear good even pulses - so thats good...
Now im waiting for my new plugs to arrive, anyone else ever pulled the internals out of their spark plugs?
Hope all is well with the engine, im sure its all good.

(1) Don't give your FD keys to anyone else.

(2) Put a cable tie around your map sensor line.

(3) Change your spark plugs more often.

(4) Guarantee you he was WOT right around peak torque (6500ish rpm) in 3rd gear when bad things happened...... if the engine is ok I'll be surprised.

Ill agree with goodfellas, but add one more thing to the list if the engine has had it...
5) Shoot friend in foot so he cant drive your car again.

And for the love of god, go pick up a compression tester, its the quickest way to get an answer.

Do you have a stock alarm you can disable it I know i did was too sensative and the headlights going up was not amusing at all.

Any time an engine sits for an extended period of time, you want to slowly break it back in.

Do not boost it heavily for awhile until things start to seal back up. Rotaries don't like to sit, as you know.

My friends have started my car a few times. I'm in the military and go TDY for a few weeks at a time. But they know under NO circumstances are they to drive it.

I have the same feeling about my FD as my girlfriend. I wish I would have known her from the beginning so I am the only one to ever touch her. But since I met her in the middle of her life, NO ONE will ever touch her but me again

NO ONE drives my car.

I borrowed a friends fd once too.. i realized its way too tempting to crack open 400hp and then vowed to never let anyone ever drive mine again. in the 3 years ive had mine only one other person drove it and it was him. its not wrong.. its just natural "lets see what it can do" is pretty common. thats why cars have valet switches. sorry for your loss. make your friend rebuild it with you.

As said before... You have to treat an FD like your Girlfriend... you don't let anyone borrow her either do you!?

Wish you the best! Hope everything will be fine with the Rx7 ... keep us updated!

lol yes you guys are right it was stupid to let him use it.
In saying that i am 99% positive the engine isnt damaged. As i said the tube to the boost sensor came off which would explain why it ran like crap.
I think driving it home with the boost sensor line disconnected would be enough to foul the old rotten plugs up, then cause it to flood when trying to sart it again.
I pulled the Leading plugs out as i was going to deflood it, and the cap / internals pulled out of one of the plugs when i pulled the lead off.
Turned the engine over and got good even pulses, so i think the engine is fine.
Car had NGK plugs in it, ill try post a pic of them when i can.
New plugs should be here tomorrow, will let eveyone know how i get on.
Edit: i could proberbly do with some new leads to!

So wait, you had the car sit for a couple of weeks, then go out for a WEEKEND and then decide to hand over the keys to your FD to a friend to watch over it?? lol You shoulda just let it sit for another weekend, i mean whats 2-3 more days if you already had the car sat for weeks?

Sounds like *** backwards thinking if you ask me lol Sorry no offense but i dont know why you did this or maybe this is just another way of explaining YOUR mistake and just making a story so you wont look like the noob.

I would never let anyone drive my FD, even if it was in tip top shape, let alone care for it when it needs minor attention when im not there, or even when im there.

Either way sorry about my attack. As for your problem, i have had the porcelin of the spark plugs shatter when i was trying to remove them on my talon one time. NEvertheless no major damage was done but it was a PITA to remove. Took almost an hour. I had a friend help me and he did all the work mostly but it was a pos autolite plug so im assuming why it shattered. Idk.

^^yeah I don't understand either - a few weeks ain't nothing. Mine sat for 6 months while I prepped it for painting, then started and ran perfectly first time I turned the key.

Lol thanks for that, i dont really care how it looks, or if people think im a noob, or dont want to believe my story for some crazy reason.
Im informing the forum what happened. It would be pretty strange to go make up some internet post saying this happened to my car when it didnt.

By the way, this friend has an FC, and his flatmate/ my other good friend who was with him at the time has an FD and a turbo RX4 showcar so its not like i just left it with complete idiots.

If its going to sit for a period of time just put some MMO in through the spark plug holes then manually turn the engine over a litttle bit. I rather do that then let ANYONE touch my cars. Especially if its a FD

I like to put together engines (and tunes) that any idiot can drive, as long as they don't wreck the thing. It's one of the reasons why I still run an OMP.

I've let a couple trusted friends drive my car as long as I'm in it. I don't worry about them blowing up the motor or overheating it or anything like that. I'm just concerned about them wrecking it.

I wasnt commenting saying it didnt happen. I was commenting that maybe it was YOUR mistake instead of "your friend" so you use this "friend" to take the blame for what happened to your car so you wont look like a noob here.

Because it surely looks like that through your story.

Sorry i was gonna major in psychology so i tend to analyze and observe everything rather thoroughly
