I'm also gathering the last few parts to do it myself as well. Something I wanted to know, I remember someone describing the new parts that they bought from the dealer, including gaskets and stuff like that you need to replace. Where can I find that again? I remember there was a post about it.

Dont worry about reviving this post btw, cuz this is something important. Since all the past links are dead now, this is all we have left.

I will let you guys know of my progress.

I converted mine to a standard two years ago. Was it worth it. Hell yeah. What did I spend, 200 for a wrecked RX7, and 60 to have a custom trans cross member made to bolt up to the body. $260, thats it. Reused every part the wrecked car had, clutch and every thing. Has run strong ever since and a whole lot faster. Now I'm converting to a Turbo II. The engine and tranny will be here tomorrow. Comes with the wiring harness and every thing. But there is one problem. Will a N/A manual driveshaft work with the turbo II tranny? My car is a S5. The manual tranny and drive shaft I put in it came off a S4. The JDM Turbo II Engine and Tranny is for a S5. So...... does it matter? Will my S4 N/A manual driveshaft work? Thought I was in the clear, now I'm not sure.

What about different engine numbers for manual and automatic?
Does it matter?

Not true, I have JDM RHD pedals in my LHD right now. The brake brackets are different but you can swap the bracket off your auto brake and put the JDM manual brake in. Then you have to trim off some of the pedal stop to get it to clear the stearing wheel column. No big deal with a die grinder, just grind, test fit, grind, test fit until it fits without rubbing during pedal stroke. Clutch fits without any modification what so ever.

One word of warning, if you have big feet do not do this setup, with the JDM pedals installed the brake is closer to the gas than in a USDM and if you wear big shoes like me it makes it a pain. My combat boots just don't fit. On the other hand it makes it easy as hell to heal toe as you can easily reach both pedals with the bottom of your foot without having to twist your foot and get in a funny posistion.

sorry to revive this thread again, but if i were to do a 5speed swap and use a 5speed ECU, is there any rewiring that needs to be done? it seems that most of the rewiring i've read about with this swap is done because of the auto ecu not having the auto tranny anymore. anybody have any input on this?

My friend KEEP the Automatic ECU. It has a more aggressive Timing on it. It works like a charm with no problems and no rewiring anything ecept for the starter interlock and reverse lights.

Your setup will vary on price, My full deal costed me around $1,700. Myself and LT1Rx7 did the work on it in one day. about 10 hours to do the complete swap on jack stands with basic hand tools and a BIG BREAKER bar.

If you were going to install a Power FC after doing the swap, which would you install a Manual PFC or an Automatic PFC?

Might as well run the manual PFC. I did not know they made an auto-specific PFC.

hey guys,

ive been looking all over the web for the most informative info on the auto/manual swap. and this is the place that has it all... I just noticed that this post has been around since 2001 @_@; and I bet yall retired FD runners :P

I see every1 has diff experiences, many got lucky while others had hell. Well... I know theres no magical manual on how to do this but here is my cry for help:

Just got a automatic 93 rx7, engine is in pieces. what would be the best option for me... rebuild the engine/make it manual, or buy manual engine w/tranni, and work with that.
I'm honestly @ starting point, so any recommendations how should I take this project I would appreciate it.

Here are the parts...

FD -->

my email is boripage@gmail.com if you guys can give me some help on this i will really appreciate it.

This thread combined with the following:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/mt-swap-161482/

has about all the information you need to complete the swap.

anyone know if the spline count is the SAME between the AT and the MT driveshafts?

i dont have both infront of me right now, i only have the 5sp driveshaft and i didnt test to see if the AT driveshaft would slide into the manual tranny before i traded it. id love to hear a simple "Yes, the Auto driveshaft will slide into the 5sp tranny"!

EDIT: apparently not sonofabitch...

reviving.

so i read this whole thread. and currently buying parts to do the swap. what i gathered from this is that you need the following:

clutch & brake pedals
driveline
transmission
clutch kit and clutch line
clutch master and slave cylinder
ecu (heard you can use auto ecu too)
rear-end
starter

if i can use the auto ECU then this swap will be a lot easier. cause if i use a 5spd ECU, then i'd have to switch my engine harness also; correct?? which i don't want to do.

any/more help is appreciated.

You can use your auto ecu for the 5 speed swap, but if you want to use the 5 speed ecu you going to have to change the engine harness or spend hour and hour cutting and soldering wire. i just went the easier route and just change out most of the auto harness to 5 speed harness beside the under dash harness. Seem to be working out pretty good.
