Unhappy it smokes so bad people think my house is on fire

recently after starting up my car for about the first five minutes it smokes so bad that i cant see the car from less than 1 ft away... the smoke is like a huge cloud that wont go away for like 5-10 minutes of sitting or 2-3 minutes of driving. It smoked up this morning soooo bad my neighbors came out running over because they thought my house was on fire!!!! ran a compression test... ... in 3rd gear went up to 8 psi down to 2 psi than back up.. very strange,.. could this be whats causing the problems?? are my turbo/turbos going out??? please help!~

Is the smoke white or bluish/grayish?

Turbos tend to blow smoke mostly when you boost hard.

I suspect that you're talking about a white smoke, which usually means you have a badly shot coolant seal in the engine. Rebuild time.

Question so will the new or rebuilt turbos fix the problem?

yeah boost gauge... lol thats what i meant .. thanks for the correction though.. anyways if I rebuild the turbo's or buy new turbo's will this still happen? or is there a chance this could be coming from a line going to the turbos? anyone know?

smoke color is white at first but then when i get going and it goes away smoke is bluish/ greyish in the transition of high rpm's smoke is coming from the engine compartment through my cd player/ fan controls to the passenger compartment (not too bad or thick... just looks really bad) than smoke comes out tailpipe when i am transitioning from 2nd to third at high rpms

Compression test won't show the condition of the coolant seals. But 95 psi indicates the motor is fairly worn (if the test was done properly).

EDIT -- big clouds of white smoke indicate a bad coolant seal, which means it's engine rebuild time. Big clouds of oil smoke under boost indicate bad turbo seals. Big clouds of oil smoke not under boost indicate another type of problem (OMP stuck to wide open, etc.).

yup same thing as when my secondary went...smokes on a cold start but goes away after a min or 2 of driving and then would seem fine...but it would still smoke under boost

Is your coolant low? That should indicate if its a coolant seal or not.

People, burning oil in excess all at one time can be thick white smoke too. Most coolant seal motors do not exhibit white smoke all the time, only for a few seconds on startup.

The only way to know if the smoke is from the turbos or engine is to remove the turbos and examine the exhaust ports. IF they are clean, then the engine is burning clean, and the issue is the turbos; if they are black with carbon, then the engine is burning dirty and is likely the source itself. Removing the turbos also gives you a chance to examine the chambers of the engine for any puddled coolant, which WILL be present if you have a coolant seal issue.

From here, you can decide if you need to rebuild the turbos, or the motor, or both.

It sounds like a blown turbo to me, too.

My freinds 200SX has a defect turbo as well.
We changed the original GT25 with a GT28RS but on the GT28RS the oil restrictor skrew was dmaged.
So the high oil pressure has blown the Seal!

He also had unbelievable amounts of smoke out of the car.

And I can tell you.
Be careful.
My freinds Sx burned so many oil through the damaged turbo that we needed additional 2 liters for 2km of driving!

So letting your car run with that damage can cause more engine internal damage due to missing oil!

Good luck on fixing!
