Smokes...

Got my 93' FD not long ago. But when i start up, loads of white smoke comes out from the exhaust. A friend of mine ( a technician ) saying that's becuz the car is burning fuels or motor oils. Told me to add some thick oils in there to stop this happening. Another question is that, this car was rebuilt 20k ago, and it has a tiny leakage. Tiny as in like maybe 1 drop everything three weeks. I've been parking it in the garage and keep check if it's leaking or not. Last thing is that do all of you smell fuel inside the car? And I've seen some black dust (with a swipe of the finger) all around the interior or the car (xcept for seats and rear trunk. Could this also be a problem caused by the while smoke? And that gasoline smell is really getting irritating, hope to hear from you guys, thanks.

Abnormal white smoke is usually burning coolant. Do you need to add coolant at times? Run a search for 'coolant seal rebuild' and you'll be in for some sobering news. There is a buyers guide that has info designed to prevent you from buying a car that has this problem. Unfortunately, the fact that it's a 20k old rebuild can mean little or nothing. Take it to a rotary shop that can confirm the coolant seals are good or not. They can perform the 'champagne bubble test', coolant system leakdown test, etc. Do not use a Mazda dealership or regular performance shop. You need rotary expertise.

You'd better hold off on that paint job - you'll need that few grand for a new engine if it turns out your engine seals are toasted.

That's dirt. The white smoke is entirely unrelated.

It's not as irritating as an engine fire. If the FPD (Fuel Pulsation Damper) is leaking, it can cause a fuel smell and also leak fuel onto some very hot parts of the engine. There are other causes for the fuel smell, but this one is the one to be scared of. Take it to a good rotary shop for this also. I would avoid driving it if at all possible.

It sounds like nobody with rotary experience has evaluated this car since you bought it. You should do this ASAP.
