Smoke In Passenger Footwell...?

I have just brought over another FD from Japan. It had an engine rebuild over in Japan about 10K miles ago and has a single turbo, it also has apexi power fc. I've not had much chance to drive it since getting it until today.

I put my foot down a little, and the car didnt pull as well as i'd expected at all, but as I boosted there was a slight plume of smoke (black in colour and smelt like petrol) coming from the passenger footwell. I had not noticed anything like that driving it back from the docks as I didnt boost.

Any ideas?

Another slight annoying niggle is the fact that occasionally the revs will drop up and down when idling. It does this once when starting from cold, and i have noticed it do a couple of times when stopping for lights before.

Any ideas?

Other than that the car is fine, starts hot or cold first time, water temps remain constant at around 84 degrees and fans kick in and bring it back down if it goes higher than 89. Hardly any smoke on start up and absloutely no smoke on idle either.

no idea about the idle. could be a number of things. might want to check tps adjustment. The smoke could be anything from an exhaust leak to oil out the turbos. Crawl under it and see if you see things leaking.

Oil leaks on these cars can sometimes be like swatting flies. Fix this one to realize there's another one here.... etc...

Is this car RHD or LHD? If it's LHD and the smoke is on the passenger side, check for oil leaking around the turbo return lines. If/when it starts burning, the smoke could come though any unsealed (or not seal properly) firewall holes. Also check for exhaust leaks.

As far as the idle, you'll need to start with basic maintenacnce on the car as well as the typical idle troubleshooting (i.e. cleaning the ISC, TPS adjustment, etc).

If it has a PFC and the battery was disconnected a while, the PFC might need to re-learn idle. Search for relearn idle here and in the PFC sub forum

It's RHD JDM car mate. Thats what was stumping me as i'd of expected it to come through the drivers side if it was a oil leak round the turbo area. However there is a slight weaping somewhere around the turbo area, as there has been a few oil drops on the garage floor. Might be a case of burning oil and coming through the nearest available hole.... which maybe passenger side?...

Maybe the case mate, the battery was knackered by the time it reached the docks here, and then it's sat for over a week without a battery attached while i've been working away. Will investigate to see.
