Cool slave cylinder leaking... rebuilt or buy new?

so i pulled my engine and tranny out for over a year now after spending some time and money on some upgrades... dropped everything back in, was getting ready to start the car today but found the clutch has no pressure at all.

i already tried bleeding it (like 3 different times)... i checked to make sure all my lines are good, no leaks. but what i did find is that break fluid is leaking out of the lowest tranny inspection plate. upon further investigation, when i unbolted and pull the slave cylinder back, there was some break fluid dripping right out.

i already did a search but i still don't quite understand where the leak could happen internally..
1) i didn't even play with the slave cylinder.. why would it leak all of a sudden now?
2) should i get a new one or rebuild? (see ebay link below) and would rebuilding help in my case??

modification when tranny is out: new act s/s and prolight flywheel. i did NOT replace the fork (though i don't think that's the issue because there is a fluid leak?)

thanks in advance! i am excited to start my car after 1 year!!!

You know what I bet possibly happened which I have mistakenly done in the past. When the engine is out I accidentally pumped the clutch pedal which shoots the rod out of the slave cylinder. I thought that mine was shot after this but I simply re inserted the rod back in, put the rubber sleeve back over and mity vac'ed the system and wala.

If it is indeed shot, just buy the rebuild kit - works like a charm!

Sounds like you didn't have the slave cylinder into the dimple on the fork. Clean it up, reinstall, fill the brake/clutch reservoir up with fluid and bleed the clutch. Make sure to watch the reservoir when you are bleeding as the clutch and brake sides are partially separated. i.e. you can bleed the clutch side dry and not notice if you are looking at the brake side.

In the the future when you do have to replace it, dont rebuild. Mine lasted about 5000 miles, just not even worth it to me.

good point. i do think that's the problem = piston not in the groove.

my question now is how the heck do i align it when the tranny/motor in the car?!

nevermind... i got it. turns out the clutch fork wasn't in place... so the piston was in no way even hitting the dimple . thanks everyone!
