Another issue is the amount of heat generated by the turbos is higher in the twin application vers. large single. This heat is then transferred to the intake air which in turn robs you of the power that the turbo is suppose to produce. That is why intercoolers are introduced in the forced induction application.
I wasn't comparing to the stock twins. I'm talking about larger non-stock turbos.

Oh and about your last statement...in regards to why ICs were introduced into FI applications... I don't know the history of FI, but I'd put my money on the first FI applications consisting of a single turbo, and not twin turbos, and using ICs. So I think ICs were introduced for FI applications, period...specifically back in the day when they were still using single turbos.
