Single or twins

As the title indicates, I did a search but didn't get any result. I wanted to get an idea of the percent of FD owners that have gone single.

maybe one poll in each or something...in the single forum you'll have mostly guys with singles or guys looking into it. 3rd gen will have a mix of both and actually I think will give you a better idea.

Being in Cali, I'd like to keep twins and upgrade the twins cuz of smog. Need to keep the EGR and keep the catalytic convertor.

So far, we are showing over 70% single!! That's hard to believe, I thought there are still more twins than singles out there.

Talking

i think if you'r looking for power then single would be the best way of doing it.and if you'r looking for an everday driving car with a little kick to it. then stock twin would be the best.

But there is a little thing called moola, and you need plenty of it to go single, like 10,000 of it.

Big Twins are the ultimate without question if done right. They aren't for the faint of wallet though, of course the high end usually isn't : ).

i'm currently running the stock twins but eventually i want to have some fun with my car... now, whether that means strapping a big single to my 13b-rew or swapping in an N/A 20b, the world may never know i'm not sure, more like the the single than anything though. oh to have money... well, more money... can't really complain

You need an option for "independent twins"

You CANNOT just slap on a single turbo kit on a stock car. You have to take into consideration the fuel requirements (injectors, fuel rail, pump, regulater etc.), and engine management (PFC, AEM, Haltek etc.), intake, exhaust, plumbing, labor involved (even if it's your own), dyno time. When you add all of these things together, 10k is a very conservative estimate.

I'd bet most single owners have well over 10k invested. I did all my own work and still have a bunch more than that into the car.

Hey, did you end up marrying the girl that you were with when I met you back in early 2001? The one in the bikini contest ?

On topic, my new BNRs kick ***. Like a single, but much more cost effective.

There are. 15 + 13 = 28. Singles = 26. Remember, twins are twins, whether they're upgraded or stock. They still represent one category: people that chose to remain w/ 2 turbos, rather than go w/ 1 (for a plethora of diff reasons, at that).

I beg to differ, Dave. Across the board, two turbos can *always* move a larger volume of air than one. I had a nice little talk w/ Dee about this the other day...

I wouldn't normally go as far as to say anything about typos, but that guy just went nuts with it. I guess I just need to upgrade my fun and stfu.

I beg to differ with your beg to differ. If you are comparing the twins to a single the size of one of the twins then yes. But that's just ummmmm, stupid. When people go single why would they downgrade to a single that's the size of one of the twins? Any single turbo kit made for the FD WILL move more air at the same pressure than the stock twins
Another issue is the amount of heat generated by the turbos is higher in the twin application vers. large single. This heat is then transferred to the intake air which in turn robs you of the power that the turbo is suppose to produce. That is why intercoolers are introduced in the forced induction application.

It really depends on what you are going to use the car for. If it's an auto-x machine or daily driver I'd go with 99 spec twins. Definitely simply the rats nest though. I myself prefer the simplicity of a single turbo. Once setup, it cleans up the engine bay, runs cooler, easier to fix/diagnose and is cheaper to replace parts or fix.
