Which single turbo is best?
I am looking to convert my twins into a single, but I am not positive on which company to go with. Greddy, HKS, XS etc.. They seem to all vary in price so much and I dont want to spend 4,600 if I only need to spend 3,500. Also who makes the best FMIC?
Did you try posting in the Single Turbo forum?

Different single turbo kits are for different purposes. Your bigger single turbo kits usually have the ability to make more power and so they usually cost more. The smaller single turbo kits are usually good for daily driven cars and people who road race or just want a fast spool up. The bigger the turbo the longer it will take to spool up and the more lag you will have. In theory but BB turbos usually spool quite fast. People who drag race or are just power junkies tend to buy the more expensive or larger turbo kits. You can't really say "What's the best turbo kit?" it all depends on what you use your car for or plan on using it for in the future and what type of power your looking for. And even then you'll have several different options.
*edit* I said usually in the above paragraph but the kits with the larger turbo aren't always more expensive then the ones with a smaller turbo but with most of your kit manufacturers like Apexi, Greddy, HKS etc I find this looks to be true. This doesn't mean that the most expensive turbo kit out there is neccasarily the largest, but it usually goes that way with pricing. You could probably peice together a "large" turbo kit if you have the knowledge and have it cost less than a "small" turbo kit such as the apexi rx6 or the xs t04e but I wouldn't suggest a rotary newbie to do that.
Same kinda goes for FMIC's alot depends on what you want to do with the car, what you can afford, etc, and if you road race it then you might want a large SMIC instead of a FMIC.
Geeesh there are so many things when getting into single turbos and this is just the tip of the iceburg.
Also with single turbo kits you tohave think about a programmable ecu of some kind, larger injectors, larger fuel pump, a clutch to handle the new power, engine porting if you want it, etc. It usually goes way past the price of a turbo kit.
Again though more help with turbos can be found in the single turbo section. Those are the real single turbo guru's over there. Us in the 3rd gen section usually don't discuss single turbos much.
