Putting this information out there in case anyone else is looking for a solution. When replacing the Bose stereo with an aftermarket unit, I purchased dash pocket Mazda part number B02A-66-9M0A from Amazon for about $20 and it was a perfect fit. Snapped into the dash with no modifications and does not wobble/rattle at all. Much cheaper than a used FD dash pocket which I usually find for about $100 online.
Might also be found in Miata and Protege from the same era. Visit your local junkyard today!
Buy them all up before the cars get crushed!
(Also many of the head units are a good match.)
Mazda had a nice standardized radio setup from 89ish to about 2003. they all use the same electrical connector, DIN sizing, and then there are a bunch of different pockets and panels and stuff.
the FD is a bit of an oddball because its not backlit green. the 98+ 626 radio was a nice way to get a single DIN CD player in the car, it just drops in
B02A is actually a 99+ FD part, along with others, Protege, MPV, Miata, 626
I’m looking for ideas on how to secure my single din into the dash that has the bar cut out for a double din.
Single din on the top, r1 flip pocket on the bottom…both fly out when I accelerate heavy.
