Simple question: does an OEM muffler have a 2.5" intake?

Thanks looking into a dual tip universal SS muffler but want to make sure I don't have to change the mid pipe to do so???

Thanks!

If you have an aftermarket MP, chances are that it's 3" diameter. I just installed a Magnaflow S/S muff on my FD. It has dual 3" outlets and a 3" inlet.

My 93 is all stock so far... Is the original MP a 2.5" external diameter?

Maybe I am not understanding what you are asking but here is my 2 cents. A Stock FD never had a MP from the factory. All factory cars came with a main catalytic converter located in the center section of the exhaust. A MP is an aftermarket strait pipe that replaces the catalytic converter.

From your previous statement, you are looking at a universal 2.5" muffler, not a cat back exhaust. You will have to attach the stock piping that came with the original muffler if that is what you are replacing. My advice to you is to remove the stock muffler section of your exhaust and measure the diameter of the pipe.

A universal muffler will probably give you the sound you want but not the performance of a true catback. If you want sound and horsepower gains, not to mention back pressure release and better heat expulsion, get a true catback exhaust.

If your FD has a stock/factory exhaust, then the exhaust components/segments should be as follows: engine manifold > Pre-Cat > Main-Cat > duall 2.25" outlet muffler. If your FD has a MP, then the Main Cat has been replaced with the MP. I think the entire stock diameter exhaust piping is 2.5", but not positive.
