I persoanlly don't post unless I feel passionately about something, and this struck my eye, for one I'm not a rotary mechanic, but when I was in my mechanics shop and we were talking about creep and some of the issues at had, we discussed the options, and I personally thought about and discussed the details about adding a relief valve as a temporary measure for boost creep as a viable, affordable alternative, to porting the wastegate in the short run.
A lot of great ideas come from different perspectives to a given problem. Personally I was concerned that you would spend money on a boost controller that would do nothing to solve your problem, and that's ultimately what got me posting....

In my experience the power FC makes a good boost controller. Ok...well I dont get creep, but I do get spikes when I redline 2nd and shift to 3rd. I always thought all boost controllers will give spikes?

Either way the power fc makes a very convenient way to control boost by just setting the digital display.

Ok, I'm back, even though i said i was done with this thread. My understanding of the PowerFC controlling boost is that it cuts fuel or spark or something if it detects boost over the setpoint on the commander, which is the reason all the single turbo guys just keep this setting at the max of 1.2. As i understood it, it would not regulate the wastegate. Thus the reason Apex'i sells a Boost Control Kit as an addition to the Power FC. Again, i'm no expert, but thats what i've read a couple of times on this forum. BUT that doesn't really make much sense.
Now obviously, the stock comuter uses the stock wastegate solenoid to open and close the wastegate, and it would only make sense that a replacement computer as advanced as the PFC would control boost the same way, so its possible that the information i read was wrong, but that still doesn't explain why there is a separate boost control kit for the PFC.

I don't think a pop-off valve is a bad idea when used as a last resort. Set your pop-off valve 1 psi higher than your boost controller. If it ever opens, examine why and fix the problem.

If you overboost and don't have enough fuel in the mixture, you will blow your engine.

does the separate PFC boost control kit also have the fuzzy logic problems when used w/ twins? cuz the website says it has a "self learning boost controller" so id imagine it would give the same issues other fuzzy logic controllers would...

Found this in the Power FC section of the A'PEXi website:

"Complete boost control is possible by using the optional Boost Control Kit (Not necessary for vehicles that come factory turbocharged)."

So that would lead me to believe that the Power FC can indeed control the factory wastegate solenoid in a similar manner to the factory ECU. I'm not sure though since I have no personal experience, but that'd be my guess.

Don't know, not all sealf learning units use fuzzy logic.. As far as I know what fuzzy logic is is a way or randomly sampeling settings, and averageing out the falues, kind of like RMS or something, and taking random smaples can get you a false impression of what's going on in a twin setup...like ours... other systems use settings where you can indicate the "Transition" and teach it about your setup instead of it trying to shoebox your setup into one of it's predefined patterns... best bet is to call a recognized shop like RX-7 Store or Rxcecret7 etc... and talk to someone who knows the systems.... I've only read about them when I started looking for solutions to some of the issues I was possibly going to run into....

Can I just say how hard it was reading all this with a buzz!
Felt like I was in a good book! I am about to pick up a FD and will have my wastegate ported, with a PFC, now with a boost gauge, and yes with a pop-off valve. Please save me and my buzz and tell me that the Hallman Pro RX Kit will work right?

P.S. Please, and I mean Please for all of those who made posts on this thread do not, and I mean do not, GET A LIFE....we need you.
