Question Simple coolent question

Lo,

Just a quickie... in ym previous cars (allbeit they were crap) the coolent levels never changed really, just had to keep an eye on it...

Just as a general question, will the rx7 over time use the coolent / consume it / burn it off etc like it does with the mineral oil or is it supposed to more or less stay at the same level all year round?

much thanks

Andy

It should stay at the same level. I have to add a bit of water every 3-4 months. I presume some is lost in the overflow tank to evaporation, and minor leaks elsewhere. Mine has done this for the last 5 years. Change coolant every 2 years, minimum. Many change it every year (it takes a beating in this car).

cool thanks dude

mines down slightly (I read it should be about half way on the overflow dipstick thingy) so it is best to add just water or put more coolent in?

thanks again!

Put water in there, it absorbs heat better than coolant. Put coolant to prevent rust and to lower the freezing point. I run a 80% water, 20% coolant, but i am in Florida with 90+ degree weather almost everyday.
