They're neat, but the OEM radiator hoses are VERY durable - I don't believe I've ever heard of a failure. Not to mention with the Mazda part you have guaranteed fit, quality, and reliability.

You can barely see the radiator hoses most times in these cars, so the "bling" factor of the colored hoses is lost a bit.

Frankly, the cooling system is absolutely VITAL on these cars. I wouldn't trust a cheapie hose off Ebay to do the job right - my motor isn't worth a keen cheap colored hose.

I agree 100% dale. I have oem rad hoses on my FD.

Back in 1999 I had my lower rad hose spring a leak, luckily it happened after I shut the car down. Pinhole leak, but I had to have the car flatbedded to KDR. So the hoses can fail, but for all I know they were my original oem rad hoses, so at that point they were ~7 year old and had ~30k miles on them.

I know Mazda also upgraded the rubber on all the hoses to a higher heat spec - when the dealer did the fuel hose recall, they could optionally replace the hoses, which I doubt many of them did. But, if you buy a new Mazda hose, you'll get the better high temp rubber.

Mazda updated quite a few parts to handle the underhood temps - paper gaskets replaced with metal, the newer fuel hoses, etc.

mmm interesting,,,but hasnt silcone got a much higher temprature rating than rubber (the bling factor is what im after lol,,,,ive got loads of polished parts and my new crooked willow intercooler looks sexy,,,u can still see both the water pipes) , ive got all blue silicone couplers and ive painted things in the engine bay with a nice blue metalic paint,,, not sure what to do now,,,i dont really want a cheap water hose that will split and kill my engine????????????

Chris bought some OBX silicone hoses: http://www.negative-camber.org/crispyrx7/pulleys.htm

Being that your in the UK, you could always go with Samco hoses if you want bling with quality. Otherwise just stick with the OEM hoses.
