signs of alternator going bad

I have a few questions because I think my alternator is going bad. First my car starts good for about 5 days and on the 5th the car doesn't have enough power to start it up on that day. Now when I accelerate my cd player flickers when I accelerate hard. I just replaced my engine and I am still in break in period and I am sure I grounded everything properly. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance
Edward

Well considering the battery is good, a bad or going bad alternator will not give a good charge to your battery.

Just borrow a digital meter from someone or just buy one at an autoparts store since they are relatively cheap now and test the battery with the car running. Should read like 14.3 or 14.5 etc. That shows a properly working alternator. If not, it may be going bad but it could also be connections, grounds etc.

You can also take the alternator out and have it tested to make sure.

The digital meter is a quick way to find out.

But if you have a aftermarket pulley set on then the voltage reading will be lower.

Could it be your voltage regulator? It is inside your alt if it is so you will have to probably replace it anyways unless you can rebuild it yourself. Auto Zone or some other auto parts shops around here will test them for you even right on your car and give you all of your readings for free. Check in your area.

If you don't want to take it out of your car you don't have to. I took mine out and took it in since I am fixing a broken solenoid. Cause I have gone through 4 batteries in 1.5yrs. But my alternator was giving perfect readings so now I am checking all my fuses.

Good luck!
