Side Mirror Not Staying Out (mirror not housing)
Side Mirror Not Staying Out (mirror not housing)
Hello Folks,
Just wondering if there were any owners here who have had issues with the mirrors not staying in the desired positions. The motor controls work fine, it's just when I drive across some harsh roads, the mirror then dips down and I have to raise them again by hand. I can relate it to a ball joint getting looser over time and how a tripod head that's not tightened down will droop.
Q: How do I solve this issue? Replace the motor assembly only or is it something simpler? More complex?
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately that's not a common problem. It does sound like something is loose in the mirror, probably has a stripped gear in the adjustment motor.
You would probably be well ahead of the game getting a good used replacement. Trying to carefully heat gun/pry off the mirror and trying to repair a plastic motor that's 30 years old is probably a losing proposition.
