side duct Q, photo

ok i'm new to this rx7 game

after buying my fd a couple of months ago i've been trying to catch up fast

thanks for the great help about how to fremove my side ducts, so i could repaint the grills black, removing the wheel and plastic inner guard allowed me to get the end of a screw driver on the little fingers of the clamps

with the grill off a black plastic shroud can be seen leading to the the black grill from the back of the wheel...
however there is no opening in the rear of the wheel arch to allow hot air out this way...

i've been crawling around RZ and RS models checking to see if any of the 'sports" versions featured vents in the back of the wheel arch but none seem to..

i can understand the side-ducts just being for show, they look good, but can't understand why hidden ducting seems to be included on all FD's but blanked off to make it inoperable...

is it a racing mod to cut slots in the back of the wheel arches, are separate parts available for track use, did someone design them on the first cars but then someone else decide they were never to be used???
