shrinking rubber seals

I am trying to rebuild my first rotary, it's going along pretty well. I have one problem though, one of the outside coolant seals, the black ones, not the orange, seems to have streched and is now too big to fit in the groove. Is it there anyway to shrink it back to size? I was thinking hot or cold or alternating between hot and cold, anyone ever run into a similar problem?

What do you mean "seems to have stretched"?

You should not have to compress or stretch any O ring if it is the correct size, doing so compromises it's ability to seal correctly. It should pretty much lay right in the groove with a couple of dabs of Vaseline to hold it in place.

A little more detail...I suspect you may have the wrong size - is it OEM or aftermarket? This is one thing you definitely want to get right.

your not reusing a seal are you? Also they stretch once the motor is put back together. If you have done this and taken it back apart it needs to be replaced.

I put the front rotor housing on the front cover and then i had to quit for the night. when i came back out the next day to coninue, it had popped out of the groove. when i tried to put it back, it wouldn't fit. i got all the rest to go in but one, i guess maybe i got a bad seal. i'll have to try and get a new one. sucks, this is my first rotary, they are pretty simple to put together, i just keep having little problems like this. i'll be glad when it's all back together and working. whenever that may be.
