Unhappy Should I be worried?

Sup guys,

Just the other day, one of my hoses crack, and all coolant leaked out. At first I wasn't sure what the heck was going on. I was just driving as usual to school , and out of no where smoke started coming out of my hood as I approached the school parking lot. Soon after, the temperature gauge started to rise a little above halfway, and I immediately parked. I didn't want to call a tow truck, as I kept putting water every mile or so, untill the tempertature rose again, then I would add more water once again until I manage to fianlly reach my mechanic. The hose was crack, and was replaced. My concern however, was the fact that the temperature rose as high as 3 quarters. Should I be worry about my engine having gone through higher than normal temperture? In addition, as I was drove to work today, the engine light went on for a split second and went away. Although It hasn't come back on, should I be concern? Well, hope you guys have some insight to the matter. Thanks in advance.

I think you should be alright as long as you werent boosting were you? I knew a guy personally(dumb ****) that did that all the time(8 times) and the engine only THEN started to show wear. So this is your chance I believe, your lucky most people never get 1 and some people get 8.

Yeah you're probably ok, you probably shouldn't have driven like that but 3/4 doesn't mean instant engine death in those circumstances. Just to clarify, when you say 3/4 do you mean 3/4 to the red line or 3/4 to the white line? Big difference.

I supposed it was stupid of me for trying to get my car to my mechanic like that. However, I hope no major damage was done. As far as the temperature goes, I never reached the red line, but came close to the white line. In addition, I never went pass the 2000rpm mark as I drove the car under those condition.

You should be okay. I would change the engine oil soon.

Next time, call a tow truck and get roadside assistance from your insurance company.

Radiator hose is a maint. item. People should change it at around 75k mi before it burst and you get stuck on the road.

I lost coolant when a turbo hose plumed off and split the ast. I almost got to redline but immediately killed it as it was rising extremely fast. I had my car for 40k more and never had a problem. I think the big issue since you weren't driving hard is the water seal, so you can always test to make sure you aren't getting coolant in the exhaust...

is this the first coolant line that has gone on your car? If not, you could have the wrong radiator cap on your car. I bought my car and it had a 26 psi cap on it and blew 2 coolant lines before anyone(myself, my mechanics) figured out that i had the wrong cap on. Check adn see if it is a 13psi cap (i believe, check the service manual to be sure.
