Should i buy this 93 Twin Turbo for 9000.00

Hi my name is David and im am interested in buying a 3rd gen Rx-7. I saw this one in the local auto trader for 9000.00 with 50,000 miles on it. Is this a good buy? I want a different car in my life. Im tired of the same old Honda Civic ****(crashed my Hatchback), i want to hook one of this babies up with like 400 plus horsepower, RE Amemiya body kit rims the whole 9. I know its gonna cost money but the end result is very pleasing. I want to be able to **** on Ferraries. Is this possible? Oh and buy the way how much did you guys pay for your third gen?

ps sorry for it being so long

You're going to have to provide WAY more details than that, chief. With those miles and that price there must be something wrong with it.

I agree, looks too good to be true. Make sure you run a title history report - it may have been totaled, stolen, or something like that.

If everything is right with the car, that's a very good deal.

Better set aside at least an extra 10k for the stuff you mentioned.

jesus crist, do you listen to yourself. I can let the bling bling talk slide, but really go educate yourself about the car before deciding to buy it. Its a great car but its not a magic bling bling carpet so dont count on "shitting on ferreries" with shiny rims and a body kit. If you want to play with ferraries I hope you have 40k+ some in your pocket to put in to the car.

if you managed to crash a civic hatch, stay the hell away from a high horsepower rear wheel drive car. The chances of me owning one sometime in the future decrease when irresponsible kids buy the cars then crash them.

damn bio weapon beat me to it. If you wrecked ur civic hatch stay WAY WAY WAY away from an FD. That car puts probably 70-75hp to the wheels and you will NOT be able to control 400hp in this light of a car to go "shittineg on ferraraaereis"

If you crashed your civic, you'll destroy an FD. A 400HP FD would die even quicker.

But for the sake of argument, forget that you wrecked a Civic. FDs are not simple cars - buying bolt-ons because you have the $$ and see the parts for sale will ruin the car. There is a precise set of rules you must follow when modifying, and since past owners generally don't follow them, you probably have to fix up the car first. I suggest an appetizer of lots of newbie reading.

you know, I always wanted an fd, but it has been 2 years since I became amazed with the car and I still dont have it. And I wont untill this summer. Do you know why? I have spent 2 years reading/disscusing/planning and absorbing information from fd owners/online literature/forums. And I still get cold feet knowing that I have to choose between fd/nsx/maybe another car. There is a world of things you have to know. FD is no "speed for dummies". I recomend educating yourself very well, or you might regret it dearly.

I think it's the other way around, the FD will kill him.

It doesn't take 40k to play w/ a Ferrari. I raced a brand new 575 Mararnello right outside work and we were nose to nose, even w/ my 2nd turbo boost leaking to 10 psi. That Ferrari sounded like an E46 M3--sort of a raspy reving.

I had PFS intake, PFS SMIC, DP, Resonated MP, Racing Beat CB, Power FC tuned to 14psi. He didn't think I'd be fast since I have a stock looking R1, but I showed him.

Don't forget, a 575 Maranello weighs 1,000 lbs. more than an FD.

i agree, an Fd should never be a first high horsepower car for anyone. Not only the fact that most new owners crash there car with in months and make the car even harder to get, but there is also the fact that they require an insane amount of TLC. It also requires you to either have a huge bank account, or a lot of credit. I started out with a 66 mustang with a 302 in it. Very fun car. It taught me how to drive rear wheel drive with decent power. When i first bought my RX7, on the 12 hour drive home, i almost totaled my car coming out of a gas station do to not getting traction on a stone and dirt covered road. It changed the way i drove my car real quick. My car whent from a near stock car when i bought it, to a 400 rwhp monster that it is today. Every time i mod the car, i have to relearn how to drive it. I now have around 30k into my car, and i bought it for 14k. That was about 9 months ago, and a chunk of the money was in repairs.

FD's are awesome...

To epion2985,

If you're considering an NSX as well, you might want to spend your cash on that. Not quite as fast and definitely not as cheap to tune, but it will be flashy.

$12k for a good FD vs. $20k+ for an older NSX. Also, you'll get more of your money out of an untuned car.

Sometimes I don't really believe people when they come on here saying they're interested in an FD, and recite, "I'm considering an M Coupe, NSX, Supra, (etc.) as well."

If you're seriously considering those others (in lieu of) then you're probably not the special type that appreciates the unrelenting uniqueness of the RX-7.
