Replace the pistol grip shift **** with a round one.
Replace the nylon shifter bottom with the bronze from Mazdatrix. Not just because it will fail but it shifts better.

BUSHING SHIFTER BOTTOM, 79-80 & 93-95 Bronze

After about a month of use how are you liking it? I’m up in the air on rebuilding stock or just going with the BR short shifter.

They are somewhat local to me (just a couple hours north) and I just picked up their pulley kit.
I know in the long run it comes down to preference but wanted to see if you’re still enjoying it.

Funny you should ask. No kidding the day you asked this, I already had a new brass busing on order for stock shifter I took out.

@Sgtblue I swapped them back this weekend, and ummmmmm, the OE shifter just "works" better in this car. New busing tightened up a lot and silky smooth with virtually no effort. Other car (high HP V8 car), short throw has been in for 3 years and love it, but for this ride, a good condition OE is the way. I love this car

Awesome. Thank you for the feedback. I won’t waste my time and I’ll just order a rebuild kit

I switched to a taller shift **** (longer throw) with the stock shifter as mentioned in post #11, and the car has never shifted better. It really feels effortless.

Is the bronze shifter bushing from Mazdatrix worth nearly triple the price of the aluminum bushing from Atkins?

Not sure, found the bronze (first), bought, and its great. I'm sure both have very similar feel/improvement. Do it

Great discussion! I had the B&M and did not like how notchy the feel was. I have a C's right now which is better but I am considering going back to stock with the bronze bushing based on feedback here. I will let the thread know if I try it this summer.

Can’t say how they compare, but some years ago Atkins thru one in a box with a couple of other ordered parts for free.

I'm actually surprised these two are not talked about more. I come from the BMW world and I love my Kinematic Shifter. Direct Mounted shifters are huge on those chassis (because stock was terrible) and I'm so use to that feeling that the OEM "floaty" feel doesn't feel good to me. But different strokes for different folks. Self centering, direct mount to trans tunnel. Compatible with full interior as well which is how I run it

I highly considered the GRACING shifter a lot but I need to check with sitting position with a bucket. I'm worried it might be too high.

I see Banzai Racing has their B&M rep for $85 which is reasonable.

CAE is great but a lot of companies made similar shifters, the only difference CAE has is the locking reverse which I don't see a value in but some may.

I am running the CAE shifter and i had it custom ordered so i am locking out the 5th gear also. I just removed mine because i am doing the CD009 swap but i really like it.

I never had the "need" where the reverse lock out came in handy. The 5th gear lock out came very handy because i had the issue where i would shift from 2nd to 5th because i was being cautious not to do another money shift (1st -2nd -1st)
i was inspired from the stillway shifter that locked out the 5th gear so i had asked CAE to implement that and they did it.

thats pretty dope. Wish I could say i've driven the car a lot to notice that but Im in the process of fixing the rats nest. Car runs good otherwise but I also noticed you are Rennatuned! John has been helping me a lot. I got the Haltech 2500 under his guidance and hope to get it running in the next 1-2 months so I can drive her!

I have a GRACING shifter. I absolutely love it. Huge improvement over the many previous short shifters and stock.

I went from stock shifter to B&M and now to Mr. C's. They both work as a short throw but feel notchy if you like that sort of thing. I recently purchased the brass part for the stock rebuild and plan to switch back to stock to see how that feels since it has been years since I was running the stock shifter. I expect it to be smoother than the short shifters.
