Short Shifters, Are any Brands Better or Worse than Others?

I want to get a short shifter and I see there are many different brands available for the 3rd gen. For those of you who have made this modification, would you buy the same short shifter if you could do it over again? Why or why not? If not, which brand would you buy?

they are all about the same. pettit, mazdaspeed, and C's are pretty common, but ive heard the C's and Mazdaspeed units are a little too notchy for some tastes.

Cool

Very happy with the Mazdatrix short shifter. Easiest part to install, took less than 10 minutes start to finish. Nice feel, and never have missed a 4-5 or 2-3 shift since.

Pettit short shifter...pricey but I love it. Heard great things from about the mazdaspeed shifter but haven't felt the throw on it yet.

B&M has a nice throw but it reverberates like crap when driving...personal experience only.

I have had the C's and now have the Mazdaspeed.
The C's was hard to get into gear at times and reverse when the
car was hot. Seemed to be a little notchyer as well.

The Mazdaspeed is fine at hot temps. The throws were about the same in both. I think the Mazdaspeed is a little better. But it is slighly more noisy than the C's. It rattles at idle when the car is in neutrel.

Never tighten the shifter bolts too hard it gives you a unsmooth
notchy shift if you do. I have to occasionally snug those bolts up
ever few months. If the bolts are too loose then the shifter feels
sloopy.

I haven't tried the B an M of Mazdatrix. Hope this helps. jc
