Short pipe from Greddy elbow to end of stock elbow location - any tricks?

Hey guys -

I'm getting closer to being done with my water/meth injection install. I have the Greddy elbow ready to go, problem is I've been running the stock elbow which goes to my IC pipe (Apexi front mount).

I had originally thought about making a whole new pipe from the IC to the elbow as that would be far cleaner. But, I'm looking at changing IC setups in the near future so I don't want to invest a lot of work and money into a pipe for an IC setup that won't be around long.

As you know, the Greddy elbow is shorter than the stock elbow. Looks like it needs a short pipe with a slight bend to it. Does anyone pre-make this pipe, or is there a good solution for this?

I do have access to a bead form tool so I can roll beads on the pipe if necessary.

Just lookin' to get the car back on the road soon, been missing it .

Maybe just a short pipe and two couplers? Perhaps you can get the slight bend you need with an angled coupler?

Looks like the bend really needs to be in the middle of the pipe so it doesn't hit the alternator bracket.

But, I could be wrong.

I'm sure someone has done it and has some trickery .

I would go to a muffler shop that have a roller and see if they can make you one.

I'm assuming you tapped the greddy for the AI nozzle?

A cheaper solution in the meantime might be to look at the coupler adapters that Devil's Own sells. Basically you could use your stock elbow in the meantime, pop a hole in the silicone coupler, and mount your nozzle there. Not sure if thats too far downstream of where you want it, but it could be a temporary solution until you get your new IC.

I drilled and tapped my coolingmist nozzle into my stock plastic intake elbow. Just an option.

Dale, could you post a pic ? i may have some IC piping for you that could fit...

if you want to buy, i just got some 1.5" pipe from siliconeintakes.com and although it looks like the typical "cx racing piping" on the site, the one i i recieved is actually a lot nicer looking (no beaded ends tho..) no sure if that applies for all or even it they have the right one youre looking for but just an idea...

I made some schemes of that some time ago cos i was in the same situation as yours...it's basically two 2.75 inches sections, 4 inches long (at the shortest point) welded to form a 23° angle (or 180-23 if you look the opposite way)

it would be great to have someone fab those as it was a real pain to find something to make it work...in the end i used some pipe i had that more or less matched, with some flexible couplers...not the best but still working!

AFAIK no one makes an extension for the Greddy elbow except Greddy. I happen to spot someone selling half of the two-piece Greddy pipe kit and bought it. Wasn't much. IIRC shipping cost was almost as much as the pipe. I then just cut it down with a chop-saw at the needed length for my IC. Also relocated the IAT in it just as I had on the stock elbow. There's no bead but I haven't had any leak issues......

Thanks guys! All really good stuff here!

I may try and drill/tap a stock elbow, I have a few spares, just to try that out and document it for others as an option. That will also get me on the road the fastest .

I could buy the sections, measure, cut, take it to a shop to get welded, roll beads, and there ya go, but going through that much work and cost I might as well make the whole damn pipe to my IC.

Funny thing is I used to have the Greddy pipe from the elbow to the IC, sold it some time back . Never ran it on the car, I got that and a bunch of other goodies cheap off Ebay and sold for some moneys .

I'll do some other researchin' this morning on it as well.

Thanks for all the input! If you have any other ideas, keep 'em comin'!

Dale

This is what I came in here to post. I've had my stock elbow tapped for over 2 years now with my AI nozzle in it, no problems to report. I think it's the quickest and easiest solution for you, and you can work on the other pipe in your spare time.

I'll be hittin' that up tomorrow, tapping the plastic intake pipe. I think I will go ahead and fab a pipe for the Greddy elbow but that's more long term.

Thanks for all the input!

The walls of the stock elbow are pretty thick. As I mentioned, it took the IAT just fine for a few years. No reason to think it wouldn't take a NPT nozzle.
