so i just put in a fresh street ported motor and driven around 1k miles on this clutch and engine. previously the clutch maybe had 500 miles on the stock engine before it let go.

so i have the Clutchmasters FX300 with a 6 puck sprung hub. i Installed everything on the engine stand and torqued to specs and did everything right with pushing the TOB into the locking collar once mated in the car....

but my clutch engagement has MAYBE 2" of travel, it starts to grab and fully grabs in the 1st inch. Its getting old and its time to take a look at it.

i have adjusted free play more downward JUST to make sure, i am used to high engagement from driving a few BMWs before. But this engagement now is killing the smoothness of taking off and going through the gears at a docile pace.

Ive previously driven a half bridge car with a light weight flywheel and had no issues like this. Also, the formula mazda has a 7.5" clutch and is stiff as hell but still more manageable than this.


I have attached a picture of what it pretty much feels like. what else could i do to possibly help out with the engagement? the fork looked good on install and i greased all areas per the FSM. i got zero TOB noise as well.

 

Any 6 puck is pretty much going to have a harsh engagement. I would adjust the rod until there is less free play and give the clutch a little time to break in, but it sounds like it just inherent to that clutch. Usually I recommend an ACT HD or Extreme with a full faced sprung disk for a street car.
