Shaving engine bay

Hi
have anyone removed the coolant overflow tank before? is this possible?

The reason i am wondering about this is that i am in the proccess of shaving my engine bay and i want to weld in some plates where the wheel arch holes are, but the overflow tank is in the way

I wouldn't remove it. It is where coolant ends up as it expands. The pressure builds up to the rating on the cap and overflows into that tank. As the system cools, it then pulls coolant back in from the bottom of the reservoir. Without it, you run the risk of too much pressure in the system.

You can remove it from that location but you still need a tank somewhere. That location is probably the least conspicuous

So i can just change it to something like this? Radiator Overflow Tank/Catch Can 3 x 10,Stainless Steel,fits RX-7 | eBay and move it some where else

It's nice that the "natural" plastic allows you to see what's in it without a sight glass. The only downside is you can't add coolant to it the way t=you can with the OE tank, so you need to manage that through the filler neck.
