series 6, 7, 8 and RZ transmissions

I hope this is not the wrong place to request this information:

I'm looking to purchase a series 7, 8 or RZ tranny for my FD and was wondering how I can tell from looking at it which series it is! I don't wanna get ripped off

I'm aware the series 6 was from '93 to '95 (my POS) and the series 7 and 8 are, from what I've read, identical internally and superior to series 6. The RZ has the 5th gear OD a bit smaller and stronger yielding lower RPMs at cruise speeds ... again, from what I've heard ... and I'd LOVE to get that one! Always thought my FD ran high RPMs in 5th and always wished for a 6th. C'est la vie!

So, I'd love to know! Oh, and hey, I love how people pain their engines and next time I change my motor I'll change mine... but do people pain their trannies? (no pun intended - but kinda funny all the same... I know if I was into trannies I'd paint 'im!) So, yeah, what kinda pain? Just engine paint? Might paint my RZ tranny red just for fun... if I ever actually can get one!

Thanks for you replies and info on this matter: again - how do you tell one FD transmission from the next by series? Ciao
