with a 13g budget i would defly go with buying a nice 2nd gen and spend your leftover loot modifying it to your own specs... with 13 grand you can find a decent 3rd gen but it can get very expensive very fast with unforseen repairs... my .02

And I suppose that when you buy one, you're gonna post over in the classified section wanting to know if we can show you how to fix your boost problems too, huh?

You will be better off looking for and posting in the 2nd Gen section for your "dream RX-7", as your budget will get you much more there. You need to get to know a car first before you start modifying and "tuning" it. Buy one that is close to stock so that you know what to look for and expect with modifications, otherwise you will end up with a car full of problems and you won't know how to solve them.

Buy a 3rd gen, they're pretty fast stock. You should keep a car stock till you get to know it and then you could start modifying it.

The question is not what you have right now but how much do you make on a regular basis to will determine the kind of car you can get. Insurance is also higher on a FD than a FC.
A ball park estimate is 13K cash, and around 500 to 600 stored away cash each month for a FD (93). And some extensive time invested.
As for a FC (T2), looking at 8K to start, 300 to 400 each month. Still a good amount of time devoted but somewhat less than a FD.
If you are new to the world of the 7 and your father doesn't own a shop, DO NOT buy a restoration project, I can assure you it will not be a working car within the next 3 years (not if you plan on going to school).

Yes.

Post your FS and WTB ads, surprisingly, in the classified section appropriate to your ad.

Post your technical help questions and posts in, believe it or not, the technical section appropriate to your car (which is where this post currently is...a WTB post in the tech section).

You'll likely get a better response on both accounts that way, trust me. Less people to make fun of you, too

Not to knock your work anything, but I'd be damned if I'd give 20 G's for a car with a big glob of spray on foam under the hood. The least you could have done was make a metal enclosure before doing so. I'm sure it's functional, but it makes a relatively clean car look like dogshit under the hood. 20 G's...damn.

I believe that is a liquid to air intercooler using alcohol (you can see the reservoir in the picture). The foam is used for thermal insolation to keep the engine from heating up the intercooler. The method is valid but lacks any serious thought. The appearance is terrible as someone already mentioned. Having to get to the intercooler for any reason would require a cleaning crew and lot's of time.
