S/S scuff plate question

Problem a real stupid question, and typing it out i think i aleady know the answer, but the stainless scuff plates i have came with two rubber lengths about 6 inches long. My deductive reasoning says that these pieces go over the weatherstripping edge on the door to provide support for the scuff plates to rest on?

Also should i just use a couple of sheet metal screws into the two holes or is there a better way?

The rubber goes in the middle under the scuff plate to support it. There should be two rubber inserts with screws supplied. You mark out where the holes go , drill and insert the rubber inserts. I personally used brass nutserts tho. I suppose you could just use sheet metal screws but that not my style.

I don't know if the rubber inserts mentioned are what I'm thinking of, but I went and bought some little rubber insert things with internal threads at one end, so when you tighten the screw, it balloons the rubber out and tightens it down.

I guess i am referring to the factory aluminum ones, but from reading the threads some people say they are stainless others aluminum.... and what not. little rubber insert things with internal threads.. where might i find these.. I cruised the hardware isle at home depot and didnt see anything other than some floor/wall anchors that i contemplated using but decided better.

They're called well nuts. For some reason, I lost one and have yet to find a replacement somewhere. I think McMaster-Carr has replacements, but they're SAE, not metric. You also have to buy in bulk when I need just one.
