RZ Recaro Realistic Value
Does anybody have a realistic value for what a set of black RZ Recaro's with tilt go for nowadays? I tried looking around the web, and saw the thread about the $7k set on ebay, and there's a company online with them for $6500. Those numbers seem crazy, though. Ive been out of the RX7 world for a while, but I have a set I'm thinking about putting up for sale. Just wondering how much I could really expect them to go for.

Exactly the numbers you see is what they're being listed for. Whether or not they sell is a different story. On average depending on condition you'll see 6-10k for a set with the rails. The spirit r set I've seen 8-12k depending on condition with rails. They're expensive now and it's stupid but for a market like this one, people are very much willing to dump that kind of money for the exclusivity and bragging rights. They're really not that great of a seat although unarguably sexy...
theres a set for sale now in the classifieds if you want to compare what you have with theirs and come up with a price. If you want them to sell for real then I would suggest listing them for below "market value". If you don't mind figuratively and literally sitting on them then go for the gold.

With the way things are going, it really depends on the condition of the seats and how long you’re willing to find the buyer for them. If you’re pressed for time and need money quick, with the seats in so-so condition, realistically you can still set them between 3-4g’s US. Again, if you’re strapped for time.
if the seats are in great condition, anywhere between 5-7g’s US is not uncommon.
Also, this is for the black RZ versions. If you’ve got the Spirit R’s, you can easily double those values. For whatever reason, having them reclothed in red makes them more valuable.
I’ve seen 2 sets of RZ seats come up on auctions recently. Both finished in the 4-6g’s cdn. Before shipping. Slap on easily another 800-1200 cdn to those prices. So yeah, with the conversions, numbers I suggest are with the times.

I sold two sets last year. One was just shy of 8000 dollars shipped. The other set was slightly under but only because the shipping was cheaper. The actual Seat price was about 6500-6800 dollars. I figure demand has likely slowed down as with everything right now. I say a set sell in the U.K. very recently for about 5500 dollars

I’m a believer in the free market but that’s not to say that at some point it just seems to be stupid…for most of us anyway. .

Maybe $7,500? Really depends on the condition of the kevlar if it's faded etc. I've seen a couple sets get snatched up immediately in the $4,500-5k range. One thing I'd add if for taller folks or people that are getting FDs after having sports cars like Porsche etc, the RZ Recaro is really appreciated.

I totally understand wanting a set of genuine RZ seats. I have spent dumb money to get genuine unicorn poo before.
However, for me personally, I would look at near equivalents from Recaro or other higher-end brands and base a purchase decision off that. e.g., if you could get a set that was basically the same thing plus or minus, for like half the price, i would personally only be willing to spend a bit more than that.
Also, the RZ Seats I have seen look much the worse for wear so you would have to add new covers to the price. And if you can't get NOS covers, that detracts from the value.
Also, I am 6' 2" 225 and lift so i am extra-wide. Make sure you will fit in any seat before buying. Not sure if the RZs are stock size, or?

The RZ’s offer more interior room and hold you much better than the stock seats. Not to mention making the car lighter since the stock seats are crazy heavy compared to the RZ’s
This being said, completely agree. If you’re having a tough time fitting in the stock seat, forget about fitting in the RZ. You might as well find an alternative.

Dale Clark rocks his FD 24-7 and he's almost 7 feet tall
The thing with the RZ/S-R Recaros...... is that they're 20+ years old. Plus take it from someone who used to track his FD with them, bottom mount is no bueno. You will hear cracking and they have been known to crack. They're cool for the street, but you're really (really) paying a premium for the OEM-ness and the ease of fitment IMO.

The OEM seats are actually really light for being a folding seat, most aftermarket folding seats are heavier, even some fixed back race seats weigh more. OEM are ~38lbs with the slider rails.

Yes, you’re getting the seats now for it’s exclusivity. Do not obtain these guys for track purposes. You going to be hitting the track either semi serious or fully serious, get a FIA approved modern seat.

yep, that’s the going rate nowadays. Again, if you’re only looking to be a bit exclusive with added room in the interior. Otherwise, you can look elsewhere for alternatives.
As the years pass, these things will only go further up. Such is the way with limited stuff.

Are those the Honda Type R seats? I didn't think they fit. What did you do for rails?

I have posted up extensively on these seats in the "what seats fit" thread. Bride has a specific rail for FD3S. Its their model R039. I picked one set up new locally for about C$450. But lately I have been buying them on YAJ through Streeter for about C$150 all in. Great rails with great fitment. Seat knee bolster and shoulder bolster are tight against the door needing a little extra push to close. But seats fold forward and crank near flat without much difficulty. You have to remove the door-side crank handle and lose the trunk release lever cover.
LHS seat is an "SR Idealsitz" from a Civic Type R with 'pineapple " texture cloth; RHS is a "SR Sport "from a Integra Type R with a fuzzy cloth..
