rx7fashion intercooler

what are your opinions on the rx7fashion intercooler. How does it fit and how bad is the pressure drop.

is there a place where I can order rx7fashion's intercooler at a better price or do people just go straight to them and pay full retail that is listed on their site.

Um well seeing as it is a RX7Fashion intercooler....... you pretty much gotta go to RX7 Fashion. It is a really nice intercooler but I think it is priced a bit high, as in ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK.

The rx7fashion intercooler is based on the XS intercooler kit. It uses an ApexI Skyline GTR core, and custom ApexI endtanks. You can order the core and customize your own end tanks, then you'd need the piping (which looks the best of all front mounts, in my opinion) and couplers. A project for sure, but not difficult if you have some fabrication skills or know shops that can fabricate the parts for you. Talk to Jason at the rx7 store, and see how much he can get the core and end tanks for. If you decide to tackle this project, make sure you post back with results/pictures.

I have it and am very happy with it. Pics of my install can be found here - http://jrx7.rx7life.com/fmicpics.htm . I wouldn't say it was easy, took about 12 hours total, and that's with lots of breaks and running to the store to get a chisel. But it is definitely easier than installing a Greddy or Apexi. The radiator stays in the stock tilted location as it was intended, and you can keep the airpump and battery and everything else where it belongs. The pipes are nice and straight, compare them to the Apexi kit pipes and you can see where the pressure drop advantage is.

Yeah I've only seen positive feedback from the RX7fashion IC. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but then again, if the radiator doesn't need to be relocted that's a plus, also the battery stays too. Hmm so now I feel that's a fair price for a FMIC which keeps everything else in place.

I heard *heard* that it had bad pressure drop. Oh well, too expensive for me anyways.

I've heard that too. I don't have any measurements to prove it either way, but it doesn't seem like the turbos are working any harder. That's just my opinion, I have no scientific evidence to back it up. I'm thinking about getting a dual pressure gauge setup to answer the question once and for all. Honestly though knowing Apexi's cores I doubt there is much drop in there, and the piping is done very efficiently so it's not there either. If there is any appreciable pressure drop it would be from the custom endtanks, but I doubt it. If I get real numbers I'll be sure to post them.

I've noticed about a 2psi drop. I didn't get extensively test it, but that's what I noticed from my few runs.

I have also heard the same thing about the apexi GTR core the tubes are too big and has high pressure drop and air doesn't stay long enough in the core for cooling.
Also the end plates are too thin and prone to bend under high boost.

i know the RX7 fashion doesnt require battery and rad relocation, but what other FMIC's share t hat trait? I know most, if not all others require remounting of the radiator, and either a smaller battery, or the rear compartment relocation. Which other FMIC does not require any relocating of stuff, and is still effective? go ahead, call me lazy, .

The end tanks on the RX7fashion Intercooler suck. They are squared off and horrible for air flow, otherwise its a nice setup.

Jason, can you get the skyline core and custom end tanks from apexi? If so, I'm sure there are some people willing to buy the parts or kits (like the XS unit).

Lazy.
Try looking at the Willams TurboStreet Fighter IC kit, I believe it meets all of the above requirements.

that's exactly what i was gonna say. air has to make a 90 degree turn at the endtanks. that is honestly one of the shittiest designs i've ever seen. it is a gorgeous ic though.

Here's the TSF FMIC (Spearco core). I don't know anyone that has it but it's like $500 less (although the pipes are not polished).
