RX7 Generation 3 Engine Question?
I'm wondering if any of you guys can help me out here. I've just bought a Mazda RX7 generation 3, at the moment it starts ok and ticks over. But i have a problem with the car holding it's water down. At the moment it's throwing water out of the engine water cap while reving it. If it was a normal car i would say it was the head gasket, but this is my first Rotary engine. So any advise from the experienced would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help

sounds like coolant seals. The combustion from the chamber is leaking through the seals and that is causing the water/coolant mixture to come from the cap.
In short the motor needs to be rebuilt.
Sorry for the bad news, but atleast you will be able to port the motor to your needs.
Good luck!

I had a similiar problem. Car was losing coolant, but could never see it drip. Then it wouldn't start. When trying to turn it over, it would pressurize the upper coolant hose to the radiator. Also, you could smell fuel in the AST, as well as see it bubble when trying to turn over.
Upon tear down, one of the housings was found to have 2 small cracks in it....

Thanks very much, you guys are helping me out allot. I can also smell fuel, but the cars actually been lying idle for 4 years. It was started by being toed by a 4x4. Then when i poped the bonnet, it was throwing out water from the filler neck. But would start and stop with no problem. When the engine was running the idle was quite ruff too though, but the engine still reved with no problems.

Sorry, but I agree with the others that I think you bought it with a blown engine. If it was blown prior to being stored for several years, I would expect the internals to be pretty badly corroded. You might as well order a remanufactured engine, since so many parts will need replacement. But depending on the extent of the leakage you can still drive it for a while.
You want to solve that fuel problem pronto. The injectors, injector o-rings, and fuel pulsation damper are all common fuel leak points, and all three result in a fuel leak above the engine on the side of the turbos. As you can imagine, that's a recipe for engine fires. Those aren't the only sources of fuel smell, but IMO they should be ruled out before driving the car much.
Less dangerous fuel odor sources come from the fuel evap system. I dont' know much about it except that it's got a charcoal canister, solenoid valve, catch tank, and rubber lines. Leakage or malfunction can result in fuel odor and reduced fuel economy.
