MD rx7 fd3s tps problems!!!!!

Well to start it all off i removed my throttle body and intake manifold to paint my the manifold cover and why i had it off i decided to take my tps of and adjust it,put everything back togehter and started the car idle was way to high a 4000 rpm so why the car was running i tryed playing with the tps by moving the tps from left to right this brought the idle down to about 2000 and that was the best i could get it the car idled fine before this acept when it was warmed up it would search for idle thats why i decided to mess with it. do i need a new tps or do i need to take it off fully and try something different.and also the car smokes a little dark smoke out the exhaust also at idle. Help what should i do to fix this.

Anytime you take off the TPS, you have to adjust it .

You can put the tps on wrong. The tabs that engage with the throttle body can be put on the wrong side which will give you the high idle. The tabs on the TPS should have very little spring tension on them and should follow the leading edge of the opposing tabs on the throttle shaft.

this is prolly what you did check the tps voltage if its way out of spec no matter what adjustment you do then u need to remove it and reposition.

spec: narrow (fully closed) 0.75-1.25v (fully open) 4.8-5.0v
full range (fully closed) 0.1-0.7v (fully open) 4.2-4.6v

once you have it in all those parameters watch the voltmeter as you slowly advance the throttle and make sure the voltage doesn't spike or dip out of spec

this is much easier if you have the power fc as you can go to the sensor sw check in the ECT. screen and read the voltage off that they are VTA2=narrow range , VTA1=full range

if you don't have a power fc you have to use aligator clips and a safety pin to push into the back side of the connector while it is plugged in i don't remember which wire is which as i have had the power fc for some time. Search the archives for tps adjustment.

Well I took it to the dealer and they set the tps and the car idle's like it should 750 rpm but i dont understand anytime you rev the gas it sticks and idles higher like about a thousand for a bit and then the idle drops back down to 750 rpm the dealer suggested i replace the tps and the bac valve. does this sound like something that would happen if either of these things were bad.

If it's only for a few seconds, that's ok. It's what the car is supposed to do. If it's lasting too long, check the dashpot.
