Rx-7 Gen 3 R1 V/S 993 Porsche Turbo S
I race with a Porsche Turbo S 993 last nigth, and it really kick my ***
I'm only with 6 psi of boost ,because I'm bulding compresion.
I need to know if somebody have the same problem with the Porsches that I have?
I usualy race with them here in my country (993 GT2, 996 GT2, 2004 turbo S , Carrera Gt).
My goal is to kick the butt of all the porsches.

You are going to need more fuel, more boost, bigger injectors, bigger IC, more air, freer flowing exhaust, programmable ECU, tuning and bigger tires. To beat the Porsche twin turbos, you will need a single turbo.

Single Turbo not quite necessary...., I solidly beat my friend's 996 Turbo X50-package with the below mods @ 15 psi... about a car or two from 10 up to 100 mph or so.

I raced a Turbo S a while back with only DP, CB, and intake.
It wasn't pretty
With Intake, DP, CB, PFC at 13.5lbs, EFini ypipe, and a few other tiny little things, I've been able to keep up with a 996 turbo. But even so, the 996 turbo is slower than a 993 Turbo S.
But with a larger IC, pullies, ignition box, some tunning, and upping the boost a little bit, you should beat him if not at least keep up with him.
It wasn't pretty

The last time I race with a 996 turbo , I run head to head with it.
I was runnig with 12 psi , big intercooler (Pettit racing type III) , DP , Custome Air Filters and race exhaust.
Now I have:
3mm race-street port Pettit Racing race engine.
AEM EMS
Greddy L bow with blow off
Ported Hitachi Turbos
Mod intake manifold
But I only running at 6 psi now because I'm in the fast brake in part.
I was runnig with 12 psi , big intercooler (Pettit racing type III) , DP , Custome Air Filters and race exhaust.
Now I have:
3mm race-street port Pettit Racing race engine.
AEM EMS
Greddy L bow with blow off
Ported Hitachi Turbos
Mod intake manifold
But I only running at 6 psi now because I'm in the fast brake in part.

Is it me or is the 3rd gen being used for something it was never really intended to do???
It's kinda sad to see the 3rd gen's being used as drag cars..
All anyone ever cares about is how fast it can go in a straight line..
The only person I see on the board using the 3rd gen for what it was intended for is Daiman!!!
Everybody should check his site out and watch the vids! At least you'll learn something about 3rd gens...
This way you don't have to worry about "racing" a 996 Turbo... (jumped up Beetle's!!)

Now we're talking about cars that can also be driven on the road, right? Not full out, stripped to the bone, loud as hell, race cars...

If the FD had the same time of development as the 911 has, I'm sure it would have no problem keeping pace with it, if not surpassing it.
But alas, the FD has only been with us for the past 12-13 yrs. And I think it has done dramatic things to the landscape.
What's the only car to win the Bathurst 24hrs so many times in a row that it was heavily handicapped recently???

I have over 315 wheel hp or about 400 crank hp, and no way can I even hang with a 911 Twin Turbo. They have better gearing and everything!
The driver of that 996 you raced must have been set on cruise control.
You need to make at least 350hp to the rear wheels to beat one.

I knew a guy that dynoed around 342rwhp and consistantly ran in the high 11s. The 996 turbo runs in the low 12s. Well, it's almost 350rwhp

Meaby that 911 not was at full throtle or the guy that was driven that car was a stupid , but the point is that is posible to beat the GT2 or the 993 turbo S with some mods , and what I need to do that.
I know that in a race track the Rx-7 is faster , but I usualy , and every body here use to race at the street with very fast cars.
I need to know if it posible to beat those cars even if they are with some minor mod in the engine.
Because that is my goal.
I have a engine that is gurantee that produce 420 whp with 15 psi
Take in mind that mi rx-7 gen 3 type R1 weight only 1222kg / 2694lbs

Well to beat a Turbo/Turbo S/GT2 bad your going to need a single turbo for sure and a 3-4 row intercooler, large injectors, Apexi PFC ecu, boost controller, and more.
After you do all these mods you will be able to beat them.
But, what makes these Porsches so great? Its because in stock form they make over 400hp, and they do it so reliably. They can be driven everyday with these power levels and be reliable and quiet. To make an FD have over 400hp, your going to be one loud car. I know because one of my FD is making about 315-340hp to the rear wheels. Also, at those power levels the Rotary engine probably isn't taking it so well. Where the Boxer engines from Porsche were designed to take well over 600hp.

Sorry, there is no way you can run head to head with a 996 turbo with those mods. The car is making well over 400HP (410-420HP). With those mods you are making less than 300HP at the rear wheels.
