Rust in spare tyre hole/area?
Rust in spare tyre hole/area?
Here it is.
This morning I opened the boot area to find pliers and screw driver that fell into the spare tyre. So i took out the spare tyre and to my shock i found rust all over the spare tyre area, even the spare tyre itself is full of rust.
Have you guys encounter this problem too? Can it be that rain water/ water from high pressure hose went through the small gaps of my car and drip to the bottom?
To my knowledge, the boot carpet would be damp if the water goes in when i wash the car. But I've never notice it before. The carpet was dry all the time when i washed the car.
Anyone?

Could have been from anything - water dripping into the spare tire well from a previous owner putting the spare up while it was wet, etc.
I'd scrub out the rust and treat/paint the area. Any pics of how bad it is?

Do you have a sun-roof? There are four drains running down inside the front 'A' Pillars and both 'B' Pillars to the wheel wells. Is it possible one of them is leaking or backed up? Just a thought.
Take a pic of your rear hatch area....I'm just curious. I currently have my car in various state of dis-repair....
With those sills missing or leaking on the upper deck...water seems to be able to leak and work its way into the tire well
