I don't know about a blown motor...did you just not want to fix the problem and blew the motor as a result of running super rich all the time??

Thought of a blown motor scares the crap out of me...been through 3 motors already.

What's a quick way to check if it's the ISC. And why would my fans turn OFF when this happens?

unplug the connecter and see if the idle changes. also when yoou are low on freon the low pressure switch opens and disengages the ac clutch so it will not "lock up" they do lock up sometimes though.

Thanks for the info...I'm assuming I need to take the UIM off, is that correct?

As far as the A/C...I already knew that, I just didn't want to respond to something different and go off topic But I appreciate it, I'm sures a lot of people didn't know that.

If it's only after the engine bay is real warm and after sitting for a little while, look at the fuel temp sensor. The fuel temp sensor is located on the secondary fuel rail. It tells the ECU that the fuel is hot and corrects the ECU's fuel maps to post start mode.

The fuel vaporizes in the rail when it heat soaks.

A faulty fuel temp sensor would actually cause a lean condition and would make your idle hunt, backfire, etc.

This would only be on warm starts.

I'll check it out, but how would a faulty fuel temp sensor cause the fans to turn off when it starts acting up. And why only when the lights are on...just trying to tie all this together somehow.

Wow, so far I have a pretty long list of things to check this weekend!

If any body comes across this thread who have the same symptoms I had...just want to let you know it was the water thermosensor. It's located behind the thermostat housing incase you didn't know.

You might want to change your thermostat as well and change your water thermoswitch with the miata one while your at it.

Thanks for all the input guys!
