Is running cooler better?

WHat kind of temps do you like to run. Also what is the lowest temp thermostat out there? This Fd seems to run hot under hood temps. Thanks Chris

My car seems to be hapiest above 200 deg F.
Below that it feels too tight.

I try to let mine warm up before running it hard.
I'm not sure running it too cool is a good idea.
I don't think there are many people who would recomend running a lower temp thermostat on a street driven car.

Rotary coolant temps are very dependent on engine load.
Thats why Mazda gave FD's a non-linear temp guage.

I can't say if your car has a problem or not.
I just dont think a lower temp thermostat is the awnser.
Perhaps it just needs to be replaced with a new one.

Yes, cooler is better ... however, below a certain temp, the engine is inefficient. Saw a post on dyno run in Japan where they lost like 20h.p. when the water temp was set at 180+ instead of 200 F. I set my PFC with datalogit to turn the fan on at 95 deg. C or 205 deg.

My car use to always run at 168-180, now that I've switched to an underive main pulley it runs at about 185.
Cooler is better for the most part, but too cool isn't very good either.

I think 180-200F is optimal. Definitely don't get a lower temp thermostat than stock, because the stock one starts opening at 177F. I think the stock fans come on a little hot (221F) for my taste, I'd rather see 200F, but hey thats what the fan mod is for .
