Runnin rough!!!

Hi everybody, just bought my 1st rx7 fd3 twinturbo and am having a few probs hopefully you guys can help pls,
1. my cars got a really rough idle, its ok for the first couple mins when i start it up then it gets really lumpy after that, was wondering if it could be an idle valve prob? (any ideas pls)
2. when i revved the car the clutch on the air pump kept cutting in and making a really bad noise, whats the airpump for? (i pulled out the a.c fuse under the bonnet and its stopped now, is this ok?)
3. the car seems to be drinkin ALOT of fuel, is this normal? what sort of mpg should i be getting as i have been driving around off boost as much as possible?
any help with any of these Q's would be a great help (i'm not to good with computers so finding info in the archives is very hard for me) Thanks,

A little advice from another newb. A. you'd better learn to search or expect people who do know what the heck they are talking about to ignore you. B. If you can't search then take it to a garage where someone knows how to work on these cars. I hope you are rich in that case, or C. Get rid of this car. It will eat you alive.

Failing that, and assuming you have some technical ability and willingness to read the shop manual, look up these issues:

Point 1:

Idle Speed Control Solenoid
Dashpot
Out of calibration throttle position sensor
Loose vacuum hoses, stuck solenoids
Fouled plugs or ignition bad wires.
Bad coolant temperature sensor
Poor compression caused by worn apex seals.

The list is endless but this seems to be the most common culprits based on posts to this forum.

2. The air pump is basically an anti-pollution device. It injects air into the exhaust to burn off unburned fuel and help warm up the catalytic converter. Some people remove them on these cars. I wouldn't, assuming you;ve still got your cat. If the noise is mechanical, maybe a bad bearing? If it is a wooshing sound, maybe a loose connection?

3. Gas mileage on these cars is all over the place depending on tune. I average 18-20 mpg on mine combined city and country driving. Some people here report 12 mpg, if they have large injectors, high flow fuel pumps, etc.

I really advise reading the shop manual which can be downloaded from here:

JSX,,, ill point you in the right direction,,,,if your airpumps shafted the air which it blows into the exaust ports (before the O2 sensor,,,,,not the cat air pipe)) is knackered and these cars are known to have a rough idle without the airpump..... just buy a good 2nd hand air pump (i have a good one that ive just removed from my car as ive bought an after market ECU ), leave me a private message if you want to buy it off me (im in the UK).
I beleive this will cure your problem. :-)
