Rubber seal on manual tranny

Anyone know what the 6" long rubber seal on the bottom of the bell housing is for on a manual transmission ?

Thanks

I think it's just to keep clutch dust and stuff up inside the tranny - that's my best guess. Then again, I might be confusing it with the FC tranny .

It sounds like a dust/water seal of some sort.
Mine doesn't have one.

It fits inside a groove in the bell housing. When the tranny is bolted up, you cannot see it.
