Rough Idle and smoke... Your thoughts

I've been having a problem with my car lately and I want to see if anyone might know the problem or has dealt with this themselves.

Let me give you all a little background on the mods my car has. Non-sequential (relatively new) turbos, pettit ecu chip, pettit intakes, aftermarket radiator, aftermarket exhaust, street port, etc.

My car idles fine. Nice steady idle aside from the usual street port. No smoke, nothing...

However, whenever I give the car enough gas to create boost, my car... changes. It'll go from a steady idle with no smoke to a rough up and down (high) idle just about pouring oil smoke out of my exhaust. I can drive my car all day without it going into this mode so long as I don't hit boost... However, the second I do, the rough idle and smoke starts. My question to you all is what might cause this.

I thought it might be a vacuum line, but it's my understanding that if it were a vacuum leak, it would idle rough all the time... And that still doesn't explain the smoke.

My best guess... Is my TPS sensor is going bad. If this is the case, I'm starting to think that it's causing my ECU to go into safe mode... Creating the idle problem and causing the ECU to send a ton of oil to the motor. However, I could be wrong and this is my best guess. I do not fully know what the "safe mode" entails, or whether the TPS sensor can even cause this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please, if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful. Thanks!

Have you check the ECU codes to see if you have anything stored? It sounds like you are running into limp mode, but its hard to say without seeing what's happening.

Start by checking ECU codes and then report back.

Wild guess, but what if a one way check valve was sticking open after letting boost through. This doesn't explain why it closes when the engine is off, so its not really a good guess.

I'm more than likely going to run and get the ECU read after this week to see if it's getting any codes. I wouldn't rule out the check valve because every so often it'll idle rough on start up. Usually turning off the car will fix it, but every now and then it'll idle rough on start up if I shut it off while it was doing it. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm leaning towards limp mode because of the smoke issue as well. Unless a stuck check valve can cause limp mode as well. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep you posted.

maybe the turbos are leaking oil into the downpipe and the oil is jus accumulating there when your idling until u give it gas and it blows it all out the tailpipe..do u have a cat? that'll make it smoke up real quick once it gets pushed through..sorta like i just found out mine are doing

u can check it easily by disconencted the cat/midpipe from the downpipe and let it idle for like 5-10 minutes and see if u get a puddle.

although this probably doesnt help much with the rough running. as far as iv found running rich gets better once u start driving...rich afrs are more noticable at low throttle and rpms i think
