california fd ?

i have a cali fd and i bought a slightly used engine wire harness that wasnt for a cali fd. now my question is rather than try to locate a used wire harness for a cali ecu, can i just buy a non cali ecu which is way easier to find and use it for my car and not use the extra emission controls my ecu would use or will it cause problems. i could not find any info on this topic on the tread so any info will help.

I believe the only difference with the California ECU's is it monitors the state of the EGR valve. Most of the '93-94 harnesses have the plug on the harness for the EGR switch - the only exception would be '95 harnesses or new harnesses, which would likely be the revised '95 part. In '95 Mazda did away with the EGR system entirely.

If that plug is there, you should be fine. If not, pick up a '93 ECU that doesn't care about EGR - they go VERY cheap, just saw one for sale for $60 or some such.
